*molecular nitrogen and molecular oxygen, not hydrogen. Molecular (and atomic) hydrogen are extremely uncommon in the atmosphere. Water (H2O, the most abundant source of hydrogen in the atmosphere) can make up anywhere from 0-5% of the atmosphere depending on relative humidity. Otherwise, this is correct. Before we knew about gases, they called the fluid we breathe "air." Now we realize that this air is made of atoms (they didn't have atomic theory at the time, at least not well established atomic theory to say the least) in the gas phase.
