Perhaps you should start out with 3 or 4 alters because a character must have variety but not too much or it would feel too much, so that’s my advice.

First off that's awesome that you're working on something like that man! Second, don't just do like a crap ton of personalities at once, I would say, start out with 2-3, and as the story progresses, you add more as you see fit.
