I think an activated future sight would be nice for this guy. He can see a slow-moving image 5 to 10 seconds in the future by entering some sort of contemplative stance, or simply focusing in on it.
The image produced includes the general area with the user as the main focus, allowing either of them to see what happens around them as well as directly at him.
However, the visions are incomplete and only show the final result without the steps taken to it and thus can be subject to interpretation. Anything that happens within the period that wasn't portrayed in the prediction is up to the user to decide.
The future can't be changed, of course, but its purpose is to warn the user of incoming attacks so that they can steer events to alleviate the damage. This makes sneak attacks ineffective to the user.
