Hmm I always viewed them kind of in the same way as magnets but with magic being the magnet and can affect xyz types of metal but then there anti magic (wooden table) magic cannot "magnitize" the wooden table but can on a metal one creating a " magnetic field" on the metals tha twas never magnetic to begin with and allowing the metal to do some cool stuff. So it makes a change but on a wooden table nothing changes and you can just wipe off the magnet off the wooden table like it nothing much like anti-magic can just brush off magic itself like it nothing. Sorry if it not making sense but that just where my head is at right now.
