Backstory:
1. Operation: Chimera Days: Charlie for a time was another scientist of Project Rat. Experimenting with creatures in order to graft their power onto humans. The results, mostly end the same way, violent outbursts, horrific mutation, involuntary implosion, or all three. One day, one of his experiments lashed out and gouged Charlie’s left eye out. You could say that this opened his eyes to the truth, that this was not working. Then a Trade was made between Project Rat and the reclusive God Hunters. In exchange for some of Project Rat’s technology, The God Hunters will give them a sample…of a god’s blood. The trade was made, Charlie was given a sample like other scientists to see what they could do with it. He thought that gods could have super regenerative abilities and decided to infuse it into his eye socket. It worked…maybe too well. His new eye was different not only physically.
2. Charlie’s Renaissance: This eye allows him to see many things, but more importantly, he could see the essence of things and how they could interact with other things. Soon, made the tech that could harness this metaphysical substance and infuse it into other technology to grant them new functions. He proceeded with his new tests with monster subjects until he went up to a Pleiades and could see her emotions of Fear, Disgust, and…Desire? Charlie had begun to gain the humanity that he had lost when he started working for Project Rat. He let all the monsters out of their cage, and they caused quite a mess. His superiors saw the whole thing on camera and would fire him if it weren’t for the fact that he was on a technological breakthrough. So, they suspend him for a while. At home, the Pleiades, named Clio, from before followed him there. She wanted to express her gratitude with a kiss. Charlie didn’t want it. He said that it was because of her that he realized that what he was doing was wrong. He joined Project Rat to gain powers to be above his humanity. Clio said, “It was because of your humanity, that I am not another test subject in your people’s experiment. It’s your humanity that allowed you the clarity to see the truth, that if you continued down this path…you will become the monsters you hunt.” Charlie broke down. He wept. Clio hugged him for a long time. Charlie said she could stay at his place for a while until she can find another place, but we all know how this will end. They secretly got married months later.
3. The New Operation: Coexist- After some…aggressive retribution from the higher-ups (They chopped off his left arm and gave him a prosthetic, that he soon modified for his needs), Charlie continued his work on The Super-Essence Technology or SET with optimal success, but they are not ready to sell to the public yet. Instead, they want to focus on the Combat Applications first. So, his superiors ordered him to make robots with the abilities of several monsters to become the Ultimate Monster Slayers. Charlie didn’t want to do it, but to keep up the charade of being loyal and not a whistleblower to the Supernaturals outside Project Rat’s walls, he does it anyway. In his free time, he owns a safe haven for monsters, Supernatural beings, and the like in the outskirt of the city.
