Well, I don't think it is a bannable offense in most places as he did not nearly give so much context as to suggest what you were saying. The comment section did not have anyone delve into such areas either. It is a common subject in media and has been more or less approved by the FCC and there is no reason why someone could not make a public forum talking about it. If you said he could make a post criticizing it then people still could've responded objecting his view so if you wouldn't ban that the poll is no more in the wrong territory as it allows a simple format for people to express their opinions without having to be make questionable content about it. The question was is something which has been deemed acceptable enough to televise truly acceptable. There was no support made for any side in the poll as like usual it is just a poll gauging public opinion not influencing it. There was no mention of anything gross it sounds like you too wanted to vote no on the poll but hey it's just a click. All you accomplished was by deleting the poll was preventing people from knowing whether or not such a thing being displayed in media is found acceptable to others. You may find it exceedingly terrible but as you said I don't think those 44% of people were pedos. The frame was entirely neutral so you are making an assumption. Nobody is advocating racism but if it was asked is killing slimes only to level up fair to slimes that is not supporting racism. The point is that admins take their viewpoints and use their authority to express it in more substantial ways than users not by some guidelines or policy but oh I don't like that let me get rid of it. The point was get over yourself and acknowledge it is an online forum and nobody was interested in your sole opinion but the general community. I'll assume you're not a narcissist who needs to get your way and give you the benefit of the doubt. You're probably just someone who has too much time on the internet. In summary relax and just try to enjoy what you can and don't try to be an imposer.

@Jayroo If polls didn't sway public opinion they wouldn't be used so frequently in the news. That influence is a two-way street, and it's possible to write a poll to skew the results and/or perception of viewers. This is some basic media awareness.

I am not a person with 'too much time online'. I am a full time systems administrator, and a look at my activity on the wiki (which anyone can do) will show that I'm not typically very active. I took the time because I am hoping to get the point across that we are not out here trying to quash democracy or whatever but to moderate a forum online, and because this is a nuanced issue that is worthy of attention so long as the discussion is genuine. I take criticism of how staff run things seriously, and when I have the time do try to keep things as level as I can.

I'm sure we can both agree that it wouldn't be acceptable to actually advocate pedophilia or pedo-leaning material on such a forum, and intentional or not it is within our best interests to remove content that could do that. When 44% of responses were in favor of that, I think that's actually pretty warranted.

As you said, remember it's an internet forum. We're not the gestapo, we're not standing in the way of important advancements in public discourse or some shit. We're trying to prevent normalizing pedo-leaning attitudes on a forum frequented by minors.

I don't like pedophilia, I voted no instantly after I made the post, I was pointing out how gross it is that people find what are basically adults dating children fine, with it being a common thing in anime, manga/manhua/manhwa, and novels, you basically cannot escape it if you want to watch/read a story about a reincarnated individual, try to find literally any reincarnation stories that don't have it while having the reincarnator start off as a baby, I'll admit there are some that acknowledge it and decide to wait until both characters are legal, but it's rare.

@Nicholas8293 I agree with that perspective. My issue was with the framing of it and not your take on the topic, which is what we are trying to tell you. Presenting adults dating children as a yes/no question makes them seem like similarly acceptable answers.

I don't think this was your intention, as was hopefully clear in the comments to you that you linked. But when you make it a poll you're asking 'yes or no'. There's a big difference between a post saying 'I think stabbing people is wrong' and 'Is stabbing people okay? Vote now!'. One of these makes stabbing people a valid option.

I wanted a clear answer, if I wanted maybes or probablys I wouldn't have made the post since almost everyone would have voted those, I don't really like the posts that have the poster's opinion right in the title, I wanted people's honest, unbiased, none influenced votes/answers.

I think there was a misinterpretation of Nicholas's intent when he made this post. I understood what he meant because I read novels and fanfics of the reincarnation genre too where the Mc dies an adult and is reincarnated and grows up to have a relationship with individuals who are physically their age. This is morally wrong and should be abhorred, but is rarely paid attention to. He didn't intend to make it look like relationships with minors are okay in any manner. He wanted to say that it is not right. Now idk why people would say yes to this. Maybe they saw reincarnation as a complete restart of life and didn't see past life memories as something that make me adult ,at least mentally.. But i guess you are not wrong in saying that framing the question better would avoid misunderstandings

Yes, it is possible to sway public opinion but I don't think this particular poll was written in a way to do so and I don't think most of the polls on here do. I don't think it is acceptable to advocate pedophillia on a public forum, but I don't think that's what this poll in question did. If you want to say it advocated anything it would be the relationships portrayed in 'Iskeai' anime, but I don't think while the material in them may be questionable they are intended to promote pedophillia either. I also don't think this poll advocated any position at all. Their is no technical legal precedent for what the poll asked about and it is commonly portrayed in media meaning a poll on it which itself is neutral shouldn't be a problem. If you don't think this fandom can acknowledge that then you have to remove characters from your users section of various powers otherwise it's the same thing. As you said this fandom stands by rules and if 95% of users wanted racist content the fandom isn't going to change to incorporate that however 95% of the users would still hold such beliefs, but simple beliefs aren't advocating or helping the inclusion of it on this fandom. People are going to hold their beliefs regardless of what you represent and already hold opinions when they come here. 44% of people expressed their opinions and I'm sure the majority of them wouldn't have changed them regardless of the poll. This is not news and I believe the majority of polls here are used to gauge public opinion not to influence it. I was speaking of admins in general when I said the 'too much time online' part and while you may not be as active your support of things like this and status as an admin make you just as much part of it. If you feel polls influence opinions and you don't like that get rid of polls. If 95% of people advocated for racist content and you didn't like them shut down the forum and if 44% supported something you were against use your powers to get ban those users. If you see doing that as overdoing it maybe you get my point. There is obviously treacherous content like posting "Hey, I like messed up things." and then there is middle ground taking action to oppress the middle ground like the first option is signs of exerting way too much control and if that is what you want to do simply make the site a highly regulated site where such content can't happen in the first place otherwise try to withhold from using your authority to suppress stuff that you may not like personally but isn't going out of its way to break rules.
