Nekkyō
Nekkyō - What Is It?
Nekkyō is a quintessential life force derived from the human spirit, a form of “Soul power”. It’s an ancient technique, lost for several centuries after the almost disappearance of magic from the vast majority of the population. But, in the modern day, it has arisen once more. It focuses on manipulating a form of spiritual energy known as Shakti. A Nekkyō User is known as a “Fury,” or “Furies” when plural. This name is taken from the title of the Three Queens of Nekkyō, the Furies of Ancient Greece.
The Pieces of One's Nekkyō
Elemental Types
An individual’s Nekkyō falls into one of the six elemental types: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Lightning, and Wood. It is generally more likely for one to manipulate the “base four” elemental types, with Lightning and Wood generally being rarer. A user’s Nekkyō type determines which element they will be able to manipulate and generate to some degree. Hypothetically, a Fury can generate and manipulate all possible forms of that element. Wood is the rarest, as it allows for the manipulation and creation of all possible forms of plant life.
Beast Types
Every individual also corresponds to a “Beast,” an animal their Nekkyō has some sort of affiliation with. This animal can be mythical (Ex: Dragons, Unicorns) or natural (Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my!). The individual gains one trait from their Beast that modifies their base stats and grants an extra ability (EX: Hawks grant flight and enhanced eyesight, cheetahs grant super speed and a wider FoV).
Yin/Yang Classification
Every Individual is either classified as a Yin, a Yang, or a Yin/Yang. Yin-type Nekkyō primarily manifests as things that affect the spiritual, non-literal, or supernatural world (Ie: summoning a spirit non-Furies cannot see, illusions, attacks targeted at the soul). Yang-type Nekkyō primarily manifests as things that affect the physical, literal, or natural world (Ie: Summoning a monster all can see, physical attacks made of energy, and attacks targeted at the body). Yin/Yang is somewhere in between. All Furies can access all aspects of Nekkyō, but are more talented with one type as opposed to the other.
Awakening Level
Awakenings are more or less a representation of the “progress” a Fury has made in developing their abilities. This usually manifests in some physical quirk, such as a birthmark or naturally occurring tattoo. There are 10 levels of Awakening, with Level 1 being Beginner and Level 10 being Grandmaster. The amount of Shakti a person has, their control over their abilities, the rules and restrictions of their Innate Technique, and how powerful their Beast Trait is are all enhanced by ascending a level.
Innate Techniques
Almost all Furies have some form of Innate Technique, a special power that only they (and potentially their family members) possess. These techniques incorporate the Elemental Type, Beast-Type, Ying-Yang Classification, and Awakening Level of the Fury in question to create a unique ability. These abilities, most of the time, have a series of strange rules. The more rules, the stronger the ability.
Bloodline Techniques
Sometimes, a Fury's has a secondary Technique derived from their familial line. These techniques are never as powerful as their main Innate technique but normally complement it in some way.
Nekkyō Traits
In rare instances, a Fury’s Nekkyo has a “deformity,” a strange trait somewhat tied to their genetics. These traits modify how their Nekkyō works in some way, either beneficially or otherwise (Ie: The actual energy lags behind the attack, causing two points of impact, or the energy reverses itself, causing it to cancel out other Nekkyō attacks). As a general rule of thumb, if a Nekkyō Trait restricts the user, it enhances their physical stats even further and vice versa. A child is far more likely to have a Nekkyō Trait if both of their parents do as well.
Bloodline Traits
Sometimes, traits are cultivated by familial lines, causing them to transform from merely spiritual to partially physical. This can manifest as extra limbs, strange eyes, weird hair colors, and more. Normally, a bloodline trait relates to a Bloodline Technique in some way.
Monster Pacts
Mortal Furies can make “Pacts” with Monstrous beings, allowing them to partially inhabit their bodies in exchange for access to the being's Nekkyō abilities. Think of this like Naruto and Kurama, Asta and Libe, or in some cases, Yuji and Sukuna.
(Note: In this universe, “Monstrous” refers to all non-mortal beings. This includes Gods, Nature Spirits, Demons, Ghosts, Angels, Monsters of all kinds, etc)
Monster Souls
Approximately 5% of the population is “Incorrect,” being a Monstrous soul in a Mortal body. These “Monster-Souls” are naturally stronger and more talented with Nekkyō than the rest of the world, alongside having a second Beast Trait and Elemental Type, as their soul is twice the size it needs to be, functioning as two souls.
Double Types
Approximately 5% of all Monster-Souls are “Double Types,” gaining access to the same Elemental Type twice. This allows them to elevate their control of it to impossible levels, now including all metaphorical applications of their element (IE: Fire can now burn away memories, water can wash emotions from people’s minds, etc)
Metatech
Metatech - What is it?
Metatech is a form of modern, hyper-advanced technology that functions on a metaphysical, spiritual level alongside a physical one, hense the name
What does it do?
Metatech is essentially so advanced it becomes magic. There are almost endless applications of Metatech, from weapons to vehicles to ovens.
Popular uses of Metatech
Nekkyō Detection
Metatech can be used to create devices that scan exactly how much Shakti an individual possesses and the characteristics of their Nekkyō. If focused enough, it can even detect the exact rules of somebody’s Nekkyō Innate Technique
Nekkyō Cancelation
Metatech Weapons have an Energy Polarity Reverser within it, coating the blade in a thick layer of “Anti-Nekkyō,” which ignores all physical enhancements Nekkyō may provide and can physically cut through Nekkyō-based attacks.
Nekkyō Enhancement
Some pieces of Metatech Armor, alongside some Cybernetic Enhancement Cores, include Nekkyō Multipliers, which are devices that cause the amount of Shakti within a person’s body to multiply against itself as long as it is active.
Cybernetics
The vast majority of Metatech come in the form of Cybernetic Enhancements. These cybernetics can be next to anything, from built-in computers to transforming weapon-limbs.
