Powerscaling is in fact, shipping for males. But instead of stuff like I ship Character 1 with Character 2 its something Character 1 stomps Character 2 no diff he's outerversal.
They do take some stuff on what they have done where they call it feats, and they use real world math, science and measurements on how strong the said character is and how much they can survive without dying with the tiers going from 0 dimensional to boundless. I would say this is started by the Dragon Ball fanbase.
I'm going to divide this into 3 categories
1: Powerscaling within the same series
2: Powerscaling with different series but same type of media
3: Powerscaling with different series and different media
1: Powerscaling within the same series
Let's start with this one, powerscaling within the same franchise. You think it could be easy to powerscale within the same franchise and thinking it could be easy to have 2 different characters from the same franchise fight each other. But what you don't understand is that things can go very south when it comes down to have 2 different characters that never fought before sometimes it can be easy like for an example Kid Buu vs Nappa like obviously Kid Buu is more powerful than Nappa no contest. Arguing in verse isn't that bad where its yeah they are from the same franchise its fun to debate. When it comes to characters that never fought before it does get a bit tricky and if they have very obvious different levels of character it can get confusing because you have no way of really gauging their strength, speed and durability and gauge it against who they actually fought against or what they have shown to do or what has been told to you which can cause agendas and than its all types of BS that gets out of hand very quick.
2: Powerscaling with different series but same media
The second tier of powerscaling is powerscaling out of verse there is no easy way to have this type of conversation it always gets toxic. There is no healthy way to have this conversation on one hand you have people who try to debate this and they try to get every little detail using scaling and the feats. Feats don't really work for several reasons mainly that being in different verses can be extremely flashy for no reason like one character can slice a mountain in half but not actually strong enough to cut a mountain just to look cool, the second thing is what can be done in one franchise is that you can't really tell if its the same in another franchise like if someone punches a mountain and destroys it in one franchise how do you know that if they were in the other franchise it would just be as strong to punch the exact same mountain like it sounds stupid but in reality you can't really tell because you don't know how that physical strength matches up between different verses like Naruto how do you scale his type of strength? How does that strength translate to other verses? An example being bringing him in the Demon Slayer verse how do you know if he is just as strong or just as weak you are just thinking about it in your head about what strength is Naruto supposed to have not what strength he actually has. Its even worse when it comes to stuff like abilities like Aizen having complete control over your senses where you could end up being biased on which side you like more and the people who get the programs, get the panels, measure like pixel by pixel, page by page, and try to scale feats like mountain level, island level, planet level, solar system level, universal, just WTF are you saying at this point? Like what are you saying what does that even mean like what is universal feat its just TikTok and YouTube shorts level of brain rot.
3: Powerscaling with different series and different media
This tier of powerscaling is the most egregious level of powerscaling which is scaling between different media from cartoons to anime, from comics to video games, from manga to movies and TV, from internet to graphic novels, etc. This never works since all this stuff all have different logic where you would try to make these cartoons fight each other like Spongebob Squarepants, Road Runner, Popeye, where if Popeye eats spinach he gets buffed and you want to put that against people like Superman or Saitama why would you do that where in One Punch Man someone can die or be heavily injured from one attack against a monster that died in one punch in Popeye its another Tuesday and they walk out of it just fine. When someone goes through something in one episode in a cartoon they will be fine in the next and that's why this ultimately doesn't work and than we talk about internet themed ones like SCP and Creepypasta or comic books like Marvel and DC types because it gets so iffy I'm going to give you advice if you ever came across someone that tries to debate you on a comic or internet and you are debating something like Doomsday vs SCP-682 or something like "Actually Sonic is much faster" let them have it. They will bring stuff like Sonic in the Archie Comics can run so fast that reality itself starts to warp around him and they will bring stuff up you never even heard about and you are going to end up arguing with this person for hours or days while he's making you like a fool since you don't know what he is talking about he's bringing up some actual legit issue if someone mentions a comic book or internet and wants to debate it, leave them alone that's one of the best ways to deal with them they are just going to bring up what I mentioned before and all the tierings that exist in this internet where powerscaling is like this character is beyond the laws of physics as an example so yeah please stop.
As for conclusion I think powerscaling isn't that bad if you are doing it as a little type of joke if you take it too seriously its going to become very tight, very unfun, very toxic. I prefer its better to just enjoy the series and appreciate the series on what they have shown us. Just don't read a comic book or watch an anime just to have a gigantic measuring contest please enjoy your series and most importantly have fun.
