Honestly, Frieren is similar to AFO since her spells varies. She also has a 1000 years of experience (which I believe is more than AFO). Maybe because magic is just versatile in itself. Offense, Defense, Agility, Intuition etc. Frieren and Fern covers these.

It's mentioned many times that strong warriors in Frieren's world can slaughter mages if they can get close enough. Like Stark can instant-kill Frieren at a distance of around 2-3m? in between them - Frieren said it herself. And this is Stark, not superheroes/villains with superspeed.
