One of the most important aspects of the world is the people that inhabit it, especially the groups they form and associate with. Today, I'll be focusing on some of the more notable ones, with members of theirs as representatives.
First, the Magic Council
Representative: Rose Denholm, Archmage of Enchantment
Founded in the year 200 AR, the Magic Council is one of the most important organizations in history. They're responsible for the majority of laws and regulations on magic and related fields, and have complete authority in any part of the world. They also have access to the Akashic Records, allowing them to perceive information on any event in Earth's history; past, present, and even the future to a limited degree.
Due to the power and responsibility the members of this organization have, there are strict rules on various aspects of the group and their methods. They never have any more than ten archmages at a time, have no centralized base, communicate and meet in private, and rarely if ever appear in public. While this makes them seem clandestine and almost sinister, that depends entirely on who you ask. After all, their decisions are rarely made without a good reason.
Next is the M.E.F
Representative: Celina Kriegsgott, Rank 0 Agent and Combat Instructor
This organization was founded in 300 AR, as the Magic Council realized that their methods and ideas required a way to enforce their laws without acting directly. The result was the creation of the Magic Enforcement Federation, simply known as the M.E.F. Their purpose is to enforce the laws the council creates and keep the world safe; from tracking down users of prohibited forms of magic to taking down powerful monsters. Because of their scale, influence, and benefits, anyone looking to become the modern equivalent of an Adventurer would likely find themselves joining the M.E.F.
In order to determine the power, skill, any individuals, the M.E.F uses a ranking scale of their own. It goes from four at the lowest to zero at the highest, with the context of the ranked individual deciding how they're treated. A rank four mage would likely be either a rookie or an average person, while a rank four threat or monster would be something the police could handle. On the other hand, a rank zero mage would be powerful enough to spend their time waiting for an emergency that requires their help, while a rank zero threat or monster would be an international concern.
The G.T.I
Representative: Yvette Laurens, Lead Researcher of Alchemy
While the Council handles the politics and laws of magic and the M.E.F enforces laws and deals with threats of all kinds, the G.T.I is responsible for the research of magic. Standing for Global Thaumaturgical Institute, this organization was founded in the year 530 to further the understanding of all things relating to magic; from research expeditions and leyline monitoring stations to magitek development and monstrology.
Because of their purely scientific goals and methods, this group tends to rely heavily on their connections to other organizations. With the M.E.F, they share research, equipment, and information, have many members that work for both, and often cooperate for expeditions and other dangerous events. With the Magic Council, they share any research or information they gain in exchange for funding, historical knowledge from the Akashic Records, and the permission to study more dangerous forms of magic.
There are also organizations with less altruistic goals and methods, such as the A.M.O.S
Representative: [REDACTED]
Founded in the year 2850, the A.M.O.S is a relatively recent but dangerous organization. Originally, they were a private company called the Nexus Magitek Advancement Corps, or N.M.A.C for short. Creating, upgrading, and selling advanced magitek weapons and equipment was their main objective, often selling to the G.T.I, M.E.F, and various governments. After conflict between the company's CEO and the Magic Council in 2920, they were shut down and had their resources taken by the M.E.F.
In recent decades however, equipment of their creation was seen being used by the Advanced Magitek Operations Specialists: a PMC focused on the use of cutting edge magitek equipment, weapons, and cybernetics. After research was done on their members and technology, their connections to the N.M.A.C were discovered. Having spent several decades undercover, the once defunct engineering company had started hiring mercenaries, assassins, and other independent agents to join their group, allowing them to test their newest creations and steal advanced technology from their former competitors. Between their members and their equipment, this PMC is rapidly establishing themselves as a powerful threat to the M.E.F and Magic Council.
These four organizations are some of the most powerful and important groups on the international level. Of course, more groups will likely rise to prominence, but only time will tell what their intentions are.
