Well, here's another announcement for a decision that should be for the userbase at large, no?
Hello everyone, your decomposing corpsemin with a dilemma for y'all.
There was discussion about changes a mod from staff had done to some pages in relation to their naming convention, from "Dark" to "Malefic" in this regard. Frankly, some vocal took notes of this, and question this change. Can't fault them, caught them off guard. And started with a message and discussion (https://powerlisting.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000377425) getting into the details and complications of this matter in question.
I can say a certainty they are two fronts to this:
"I understand this, can't help but agree"/"Keep it": Under a simplistic lens, Dark has two levels of meaning: Figurative (Absence of good) & Literature (Absence of light). This change was to tackle the sense of ambiguity these powers had, then streamlined to the sense of definite meaning. The complications come from the concrete usage of "Dark", which has been utilized to convey a more allusive meaning: Darker aspects of something (of Divinity, of Elements, you name it), not necessarily malignant or evil, while it certainly applies on particular cases. This concludes, while accurate for the most part, it is strict and isn't open to flexibility, leading to potential pages covering the allusive meaning. I personally wouldn't like that, but don't let my opinion cloud your judgment on this situation.
"I don't think I like it, doesn't really help"/"Change it": Some are comfortable with a familiar face, I admit I'm on that fence from time to time. This front regard generality and the room to breathe great benefits for changing it back, while being open to the natural ambiguity of the usage. A simple explanation, here. Dark isn't Evil and all that.
See here, while I believe the intention was respectable and understand what led to this change, I still think it doesn't take away how comprehensiveness/broadness outweighs accuracy in this case. Yes, even as a staff we can't make heads or tails on this, shocker. That leads to my main proposal in this case: A Poll. Here's where you come in. Place your vote, your honest opinion. Honestly, it's refreshing we don't really agree on matters regarding the wiki and try to stand by our perspectives on where this community should stand, makes us less of a hive-mind, really. So? Which one would you think is beneficial? Decide HERE 👉https://powerlisting.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000377994
EDIT: I want to be a forthcoming as possible as there were some misunderstandings on the voting:
Here are the options you have to vote:
1 - Yes! Keep the change or "Keep it". These powers are destructive, corrupting, and/or evil; they have nothing to do with absence of visible light.
2 - No! Revert the change or "Change it back". These powers are destructive and dangerous but not evil; there is no better word than "dark" to describe them.
