Imagine, for a moment, that everything in existence is measured in hierarchies. A hierarchy of strength, a hierarchy of luck, a hierarchy of durability, etc. What if you were to aquire the ability to supersede anything you encounter that is above you on a particular hierarchy?

For example, say you aquired the ability to Supersede durability. If you come across anything more durable than you - higher on the hierarchy of durability - you can supersede it, taking its place on the hierarchy and shifting everything now beneath you down to fill where you were.

Say you came across some steel, which is more durable than you, and you superseded it, it would look like this:

1. A --> A

2. B --> B

3. Steel --> You

4. C --> Steel

5. You --> C

6. D --> D

7. Etc --> Etc.

Note that you can supersede anything you encounter that is higher on the hierarchy than you, whether it be a person or not, but that you must encounter it - knowledge of its existence is not enough, you have to encounter it directly - and that you can never supersede something that transcends the hierarchy entirely, or become transcendent of the hierarchy yourself.
