Past Manipulation

This was originally going to be a response to @Keefdreewill on their post on Origin Manipulation and Logic Manipulation, but it got too long and I took to long to get around to this, so I decided it would be better as a post in and of itself.

This is mostly just a collection of some thoughts I had about Origin Manipulation, so feel free to respond with your own thoughts if you like.

The main one that's been going through my head is the difference between what the power would do when treating an 'origin' as an internal abstract quality of a given thing and an external moment/source in the world. The first would essentially alter the thing's own personal history/source without effecting the world at large, as the origin is an internal abstract quality separate from the world itself. The second would more entail manipulating the thing behind something. You naturally alter the world whenever you manipulate the origin of something.

For example, the first could take a rock and change its origin to be a mystic gem formed over millions of years in primordial volcanoes and magical rivers... in a world where magic doesn't exist, and it would work without affecting the world due to only altering the rock's internal abstract origin. On the other hand, the second changing the origin of a rock in that way would involve altering the world - its rules and its past - to allow magic and have the necessary environment as dictated in its origin.

For a more mundane example, if you change the origin of someone so they came from a different town that doesn't exist, the second would mean altering the past so that the town so that it had always existed. On the other hand, the internal abstract origin would make it so they came from this town without creating the town or changing the world's past, essentially altering the past that the person came from without touching the actual past.

Another example could be that of a fire. The properties of a fire are essentially dictated by the laws of physics, which can be considered the origin of said properties. Origin Manipulation in the first sense would alter the laws that the fire operates off of without altering the laws of physics themselves. Origin Manipulation in the second sense would outright rewrite the laws of physics.

I suppose it could be considered the difference between manipulating the origin of anything and manipulating anything that is the origin of something.

To be honest, I think that Origin Manipulation can do a bit of both, to varying degrees. Overall, this would allow Origin Manipulation to alter something on a fundamental level without necessarily rewriting reality and the past around it.

Going back to the idea of manipulating the origin of the present, I think that would be slightly different (and superior) to manipulating the past. In essence, if the past has been altered, what is now 'the past' would not include previous 'pasts' from before alterations, as those old pasts have been replaced. On the other hand, the origin of the present would necessarily include all previous pasts and histories of the world, as they are a part of how it came to be. Altering the origin of the present would also likely bypass the senses of any kind of Past Manipulator, or someone with a similar power, as it is not directly altering the past, rather everything about how the present moment came to be, which happens to include the past.

Another thought I've had has been a different kind of Causa Sui, which could be considered closer to Origin Transcendence. Causa Sui seems to go more off of the 'external source' kind of origin, and focuses on being the origin of your own creation. What I'm thinking of focuses more on the 'internal abstract origin', and more on the origin of you as you are now, as opposed to your initial creation. Normally, the your origin in this sense would consist of everything that has happened to you - essentially, your past (though this would also work without a past in the case of beings beyond time). You are bound by it, and it both decides what you are now and dictates the possibilities for you stretching far into the future. But what if you were to use Origin Manipulation to make the origin of you as you are now... yourself? With this, you would be unbound by any given past, as it is no longer your origin, can dictate what you are now, exist entirely in and of yourself, and are unconstrained by any given set of possibilities for the future (this is all ignoring absolutes and meta-concepts, which could reasonably affect a being of this kind). You would be unbound by logic, truth, probability, etc, as your origin no longer places you within their constraints unless you decide to adhere to them.

So yeah, I'm sure you can tell I've been thinking about this for a while xD

. However, the supreme being has changed a few details about your past(aka the days before your seventh birthday). One of those changes involves an abnormal birth to wear instead of being born like a regular human your body just appeared out of thin air, and what everyone else saw during your birth was actually an illusion. The other change involves you possessing two mainstream powers of your choosing that aren’t a part of the Omnipotence Derivatives category page nor the Umbrella Power category page.

What two mainstream powers were you sent back in time to your seventh birthday via time reversal with, why do these 2 powers suit your fancy, and how would you make use of them especially now that you get to relive a lot of your life?

The Supreme God

has appeared before you and is going to reverse time back to any day of your choosing, before Covid started becoming a problem. He has also use the power of Meta Event Manipulation and changed a few details about your past. Born to a fairly wealthy family on February 5th, 1990, Kiyomi was the daughter of a drunkard father and manipulative mother. First displaying cognitive abilities above average intelligence when she delivered a specific request for a book at the age of 5 months, her father was envious of her intelligence. At 4 years old, she was already reading through many college level papers with an insane comprehension of the meanings of them. At age five she took an IQ test and got 275, 100 points above what is considered genius level intellect. At the age of seven she successfully found a way to build a quantum computer small enough to fit in a ring which she constantly has on her person at all times, during this time she completed her first five doctorates. Having been abused and mistreated at her home, at age eleven she left her family and started Tytherium Futureworks as a company working on time travel, upon Chihiro arriving and subsequently becoming an employee for Kiyomi, she changed Futureworks into a “Mission to Create Utopia”. Kiyomi has refused to disclose anything about what Futureworks truly is. In 2019, Kiyomi was the focus of a lawsuit in which she was accused of killing a member of her company, Kiyomi defended herself and got a not guilty verdict. 2021 had Kiyomi declare that her company would be attempting to arrest a person messing with time. Tytherium is part of many controversial events including a declaration by Kiyomi that they found a way to erase a person from reality entirely.

Dear members of the committee, it has recently come to my attention that someone has discovered how to time travel. Recently I have found extreme differences on history, including stonehenge being visited by an unidentifiable person using the alias of John Titor who proceeded to provide evidence of assassinating various important people, including Abraham Lincoln, with 10mm Auto bullets, forensics reported that the bullet markings are those of a glock. Titor seems to be some kind of sadist, as he (or she) seems to be manipulating the past as an experiment or something in that manner. I feel that us in Tytherium are obligated to fix this issue. Dear committee members, are we to let reality fade away, even though we have the gift to know this is not how reality is supposed to go? Should we refuse to take action, we will have doomed everyone for such irresponsible inaction. Give me a team, and I assure you that we will find this “John Titor”.

It is imperative that we do not stand by while this happens, now is the time to act.
