"Magic... is many things. Can BE many things. It can be either that could help you in the most mundane stuff... or even be some kind of almighty god. Knowing that... what are you interested in?" (Southern Sorceress)
Magic is one of the existence's main forms of power. It is the one based on the principle of "performing miracles", turn the desires of the user into reality and many more possible uses. Obviously, it's mostly used by sorcerers, wizards, witches, warlocks, etc.
Description
Magic is one of existence's main forms of power. It operates on the principle of "performing miracles," allowing users to turn their desires into reality. This versatile power enables the manipulation of various aspects of reality, from elemental forces to complex spells and enchantments. Magic is predominantly wielded by sorcerers, wizards, witches, and warlocks, each bringing their unique touch and interpretation to its use.
The origins of magic are diverse and deeply rooted in various traditions and cultures. For some practitioners, magic is derived from the careful control and manipulation of mana, an invisible energy that permeates the universe. These users must learn to harness and direct this energy through rigorous training and study. For others, magic is an innate ability, as natural and instinctive as breathing. These individuals often exhibit magical prowess from birth, able to cast spells and perform feats without formal training.
Magic's characteristics are shaped by its user's intent and the source of their power. Spells can be simple or complex, requiring incantations, gestures, or the use of magical artifacts. The nature of magic can also vary, with some forms being more aligned with elements like fire, water, earth, or air, while others tap into darker, more arcane forces. Regardless of its form, magic fundamentally alters reality, making the impossible possible and defying the natural laws of the physical world.
Capabilities
Magic: Magic is a conceptual system that allows an individual to control the natural world, including events, objects, people, and physical phenomena. By channeling various esoteric and supernatural forces to the user's will, they can influence one, many, or all aspects of reality. It is a versatile and potent force that can be shaped by the user's desires and intentions.
Reality Warping and Subjective Reality: Magic, in its overall context and regardless of type and complexity, fundamentally works in the same way; it allows users to alter aspects of reality by manifesting their desires and imagination into existence. This capability enables practitioners to create, destroy, or modify the fabric of reality according to their will.
Law Manipulation: Magic also allows the user to bend the laws and concepts of existence, including it's most basic information. This can include altering the fundamental principles that govern the universe, such as matter, time, space, probability and causality. One of the main forms of bending the laws of existence within magic, is that all magic users are capable of negating the effect of most attacks at them.
Spell Casting: Their power can be more optimal when realized through spells, which are a series of incantations, words, gestures, and rituals. These spells can range from simple, single-word commands to complex, multi-step procedures. However, this isn't universal, as many practitioners can also directly perform sorcery without incantations, relying instead on their innate magical abilities or mental focus.
Magic Channeling/Limited Enchantment: Mages can channel their own mana (or magical energy and whatever source they have) into objects and accessories, turning them into "catalysts." These catalysts can be used to refine the mage's magic, enhancing its power, precision, and efficiency. Enchanted objects can serve various purposes, from amplifying spells to providing protective charms.
Magical Energy Manipulation: All mages can also control, shape, and project magical energy, which can be used as attacks, elements, and other forms. They use their force to convert into said energy, which can then be directed towards various ends. This manipulation allows for a wide range of applications, from offensive spells like fireballs and lightning bolts to defensive shields and barriers.
Soul Manipulation and Non-Physical Interaction: Like basically every single power in existence, magic allows users to affect others' souls and interact with the abstract and non-physical. All magical attacks and spells can affect and completely destroy spirits and astral forms.
Dream Manipulation: Some mages possess the ability to enter and manipulate dreams, interacting with dreamers and influencing their subconscious minds. Dreamwalking is both a powerful tool for psychological exploration and a potential hazard if misused.
Magical Constructs: Mages skilled in transmutation can create temporary or permanent magical constructs, such as golems or elemental guardians, to serve specific purposes like defense or labor. Or more simple things, like weaponry and force-fields.
Variations and Types
Divine Magic
Divine magic is the mystical power wielded by gods and celestial beings, drawing upon the essence of Divine Force and Aether. Unlike mortal practitioners who harness magic through study or innate ability, divine magic flows naturally from the divine beings themselves.
Magic Manipulation and Generation: Gods manipulate magic effortlessly, generating it from the very fabric of their divine essence. They can weave spells of immense power with a mere thought, shaping reality to suit their will. This ability allows them to perform acts of creation, destruction, and alteration on a cosmic scale, often without the need for elaborate rituals or incantations.
Summoning: Through divine magic, gods can summon creatures, beings, or even objects from other realms or dimensions. This ability extends beyond mere summoning; it includes the ability to imbue summoned entities with divine energy or directives, making them formidable allies or agents of divine will.
Illusion Manipulation: Gods excel in manipulating perception and reality through illusions. They can create illusions that deceive all senses, from sight and sound to touch and even magical detection. These illusions can range from benign deceptions to elaborate traps or tests of mortal resolve.
Matter Manipulation: Divine beings harness divine magic to manipulate matter at its most fundamental levels. They can transmute elements, reshape landscapes, or even create entire worlds with a mere gesture. This ability extends to molecular manipulation, allowing them to alter the physical properties of objects or beings at will, from solidifying air into barriers to transforming one substance into another.
Telekinesis: Divine magic grants gods the power of telekinesis, enabling them to move and manipulate objects with their minds alone. This ability extends to manipulating forces on a grand scale, such as controlling weather patterns or shifting tectonic plates, demonstrating their mastery over the physical and metaphysical realms.
Creation: Divine magic is the essence of creation itself, allowing gods to bring forth life, matter, and energy from nothingness. They can shape raw divine energy into tangible forms, sculpting structures or imbuing objects with divine essence. This creative power extends beyond mere physical creation; it encompasses the birth of concepts, ideas, and spiritual realms, shaping the very fabric of existence.
Divine Force Manipulation and Immortality Negation: Divine magic possesses an innate purity and righteousness that can counter dark forces and negate immortality granted by demonic beings. Through holy manipulation, gods can purify corruption, banish darkness, and sever ties to demonic immortality. This ability extends to disrupting demonic regeneration, preventing wounds from healing and weakening their resilience over time.
Fate Manipulation: At the core of divine magic lies the ability to shape mortal fate according to the desires of the gods. By imprinting their divine will upon the fabric of fate, gods can alter destinies, change outcomes, or weave threads of destiny that guide mortal lives. This manipulation of fate extends to foreseeing future events, influencing pivotal moments in history, and ensuring the fulfillment of divine prophecies through subtle nudges or grand interventions.
Interdimensional Travel: Gods can travel between different dimensions or planes of existence, such as the mortal realm, the afterlife, or other universes.
Demonic Magic
Demonic magic stands as the sinister counterpart to divine magic, drawing its power from the inner demonic forces of its wielders. Similar to gods, demons possess innate abilities rooted in their dark essence, granting them formidable control over malevolent energies and twisted realities.
Magic Manipulation and Generation: Demons manipulate magic through their innate demonic essence, generating dark energies that warp reality to suit their malevolent desires. They can weave spells that inflict curses, summon dark entities, or twist the fabric of reality into nightmarish forms without the need for elaborate rituals or spells.
Summoning: Through demonic magic, demons can summon creatures, spirits, or even entire legions from the depths of hellish realms. These summoned entities often embody the essence of darkness and chaos, serving their summoner's will with ruthless efficiency and malevolent intent.
Illusion Manipulation: Demons excel in manipulating perceptions and reality through illusions steeped in darkness and despair. They can create illusions that torment the senses, induce madness, or deceive even the most vigilant of observers. These illusions often serve to sow discord, confusion, or despair among their enemies.
Hell-Fire Manipulation: All demons possess the ability to control, shape, and generate hellfire, a potent and destructive force fueled by their infernal nature. Hellfire can burn with intense heat, consuming all in its path and leaving behind nothing but ash and despair. Demons can unleash hellfire in torrents, engulfing foes in searing flames that defy conventional defenses.
Darkness Manipulation: Demonic magic grants mastery over shadows and darkness itself. Demons can cloak themselves in darkness, traverse through shadows, or solidify darkness into tangible forms that ensnare or suffocate their enemies. This manipulation extends to creating barriers of darkness or using shadows as conduits for teleportation and surprise attacks.
Dark Energy Manipulation: Harnessing dark energies from infernal realms, demons wield these malevolent forces to fuel their spells, enhance their physical prowess, or unleash devastating attacks. Dark energies are suffused with malevolent intent, capable of corrupting and devouring light and life wherever they touch. Demons can imbue objects with cursed properties, project blasts of unholy force, or create barriers that repel even the most powerful of magics.
Dark Arts
Dark arts represent the mortal counterpart to demonic and divine magic, tapping into malevolent forces and forbidden knowledge. Practitioners of dark arts often forge pacts with demons or malevolent entities, gaining access to potent and often dangerous abilities that defy moral and ethical boundaries.
Blood Magic: At the heart of dark arts lies blood magic, a forbidden practice that harnesses the life force within blood to fuel spells and rituals. Blood magic can be used for diverse purposes, from enhancing one's own abilities to casting potent curses or even sacrificial rituals that demand steep prices in life essence.
Body Puppetry: Through the manipulation of blood magic, practitioners can exert control over living beings, turning them into unwilling puppets. This dark art allows them to commandeer bodies, forcing victims to act against their will or perform actions that serve the dark mage's malevolent purposes.
Conjuration: Dark arts include the conjuration of beings and entities from other realms or planes of existence. This practice combines elements of creation and summoning, enabling practitioners to bring forth creatures that embody darkness, chaos, or malevolence. These conjured entities often serve as minions or instruments of the dark mage's will.
Death Manipulation and Necromancy: Dark arts grant mastery over the concept of death itself, allowing practitioners to manipulate life-force and necrotic energies. Necromancy encompasses the raising of undead minions, communing with spirits of the deceased, and even manipulating life and death to prolong one's own existence or curse others with decay and mortality.
Curse Manipulation: A hallmark of dark arts is the ability to cast curses that afflict victims with misfortune, suffering, or supernatural afflictions. These curses can range from simple hexes that bring bad luck to complex enchantments that doom their targets to eternal torment or decay. Curse manipulation is a potent tool for revenge, coercion, or asserting dominance over foes.
