If other people are making decisions for you on your characters and on your story you won't be able to connect with it, because you don't know them. When writing a story, it's important that YOU know how they work and why they work. Otherwise it's going to be harder and harder to do the story and characters that you want to do, and you'll spend more time wondering what other people think than what you think and it becomes something that isn't yours anymore.
There's no problem in asking for help on superpowers, just don't become dependent on asking others to make decisions on your story and characters. We will never really know your characters until we read them in action, interacting with other characters and how they deal with situations, and reading backstories on them won't substitute that.
If you can't make a decision on something, think about it when it comes up in the story; you'll be stuck for a very long time on one detail. Make a note of what you can't make a decision on and them put it aside and move onto the next thing, and then do the same for that if you need to and, eventually, everything will come together.
