I'll try and keep this short.
Since the beginning, Meta Powers (henceforth MP) has been constructed from arbitrary and misconceived definitions. No one seems to be able to properly and concisely define what a "Meta Power" is or what it means to interact with something on a 'Meta' level. And I say "definitions" because there is literally not a single consistent definition across these Meta powers:
Meta Time Manip means manipulating time across all realities, Meta Art Manip means manipulating art without limit, Meta-Concept Manip means manipulating "all concepts beyond normal concepts" (What does that even mean?) etc.
If you can't already tell, MP is a clusterfuck of random powers with the only common denominator being the adjective "meta". I want to change this.
Let's start by properly defining what it means to be "meta". Conventionally, "meta" is used for self-referential concepts. Meta-analysis entails analyzing analyses, meta humor entails humor about humor, meta-fiction entails fiction about fictionality, and so on.
So, following this use of the prefix, I propose that MP be a category solely dedicated to powers about other powers. In more understandable terms: Superpower Manipulations (henceforth SM). This would mean my proposal of MP will only include powers such as Power Negation, Ability Creation, Ability Learning, Superpower Manipulation, Power Bestowal etc., basically any power that allows the user to interact with other powers. Obviously, the SM category will also have to be deleted.
Another point, SM is also in dire need of a clean-up so by essentially merging these 2 categories, we would be killing two birds with one stone.
Now, I'll address some questions.
Q: "What will happen to the Plot Powers category? Will they still be considered Meta?"
A: No. They are metafictional but aren't about other powers.
Q: "What will happen to the other MPs?"
A: As you might have noticed, we've started renaming them, so those too will no longer be considered Meta (they were never to begin with).
Q: "What about Metaphysics?"
A: I would consider this a more unconventional use of the prefix meta, as it entails a more philosophical (as opposed to scientific) outlook on the "how"s and "why"s of the universe and existence rather than being "physics about physics" or something along those lines. Hence, it won't be considered a MP.
