One thousand years ago in an alternate universe, the world went through a drastic change known as Eschaton, due to the belief that it was supposed to be the end of the world. Continents divided and split up, locations were sent backwards or forwards in time, and many monsters and supernatural phenomena started to appear. However, thanks to the efforts of the survivors, the world remained intact despite everything that had happened. Now, the world's almost completely different. There is one massive continent in the center of the world known as Oculi Mundi (latin for World's Eye) due to its unique shape. Many islands and countries extend around it in all directions, with the most direct paths to it being known as Thousandfold Trails. The islands vary wildly in shape, size, climate, culture, and time period, with Oculi Mundi being a large combination of various elements from the islands thanks to many travelers. The people on each island can vary wildly too, ranging from average humans to seemingly otherworldly beings. Thanks to this, there's a giant line dividing the world's top and bottom halves, formed by the ancient survivors by altering the world's seas resulting in a giant wall of waves and storms. The farther south a person goes past this wall, usually known as The Evolutionary Blockade, the less human and more monsterous the beings they encounter will be. Some islands have people of similar appearances, abilities, time periods, and cultures, while others can be completely different. thanks to the divergent evolution everyone's common ancestors went through. Thanks to that same process (and scientific breakthroughs made by more advanced civilizations), it's been discovered that a person (or people) can gain an ability from a monster by consuming a specific organ within it. This organ varies between monsters, with some being harder to locate than others. This process is known to most as Transcendence, with the people who gain an ability being referred to as Transcendents. It's been discovered that the ability a person gains depends on them as an individual, as almost everyone gains a different ability. Once a person becomes a Transcendent, they (usually) can't gain other powers from monsters, although they can potentially enhance their own through training, experience, extreme stress, or by repeatedly consuming a monster's organ. However, if a person lacks the willpower necessary to become a Transcendent, nothing happens. Due to this, a popular substitute for Transcendence is a process known as T-Forging (or Transcendence Forging), where items such as weapons, armor, or other things are enhanced or created by using the energy found within these organs. In order to regulate the hunting and consuming of monsters, an international organization was created known as The Monster Countermeasure Service (M.C.S). Due to the lack of a formal world government, the M.C.S acts as the next best thing, regulating the distribution of monster organs (which they call Activation Trigger organs or A.T. organs.), controlling populations of monsters, and contributing the quality of life and monster based interactions of almost every island in the world, with Oculi Mundi being their center of operations, due to the abnormal presence of monsters in certain areas of the main continent. People can join the M.C.S and become a member of a different subdivision based on their skills and abilities, whether it be the Hunter's Legion (the most famous one due to the applicants all being skilled hunters with varying ranks), the Expedition Team (the second most famous, with their purpose being to find, observe, and document different phenomena and monsters) or possibly more secretive groups.
Additional M.C.S Details:
Due to the M.C.S's ranking system, it's quite common for members to fight or compete against each other to gain a higher rank due to the benefits and reputation, especially within the more combat focused groups. The lowest rank is B-Tier or B-Rank (depending on the group.) The highest rank is X-Tier or X-Rank, with exceptionally few people ever getting into this ranking.
In order to effectively dispatch people for emergencies or have members closer to their homes, the M.C.S has established bases on several major islands, and occasionally has what's known as a Trailing Ship sail around to keep an eye on more dangerous areas, due to the fact that the M.C.S lacks the ability to create an island, and lacks the permission to have complete control over an island and the activities within it.
It's common for people to attempt to adjust to the language, customs, and time periods of other islands due to the ease of traveling the world.
T-Forged Items are regulated and sold by the M.C.S, along with A.T. organs. Despite this, illegal selling of both isn't unheard of.
Due to the varying abilities of different species, it's common for people to have abilities based on their own species. These abilities can be told apart from Transcendence based abilities however, thanks to the fact that species based abilities can be more commonly seen.
Since many cultures and time periods tend to interact, it's common to see items or people that are a mix of multiple, such as someone wearing formal clothing but using a medieval era weapon, or the existence of certain weapons like Gunblades.
Monster sightings are much more common closer to The Evolutionary Blockade, due to the mostly unregulated populations of monsters on the other side.
Monsters can vary in shape and size, ranging from mammalian monsters close in size to the average person, to gigantic reptilian sea monsters. It should be noted that no monster is ever anthropomorphic, and that the abilities gained from a monster are rarely ever based on the monster itself.
Every ability has a Weakness, Limitation, Drawback, or multiple, regardless of whether the ability is due to Transcendence, T-Forging, or something else.
T-Forged abilities are created to suit individual users just like Transcendence based abilities, meaning that a Transcendent can't use a T-Forged item. Users of T-Forged abilities have the same result, as once they've effectively "bonded" with a T-Forged item (due to the requirement of an individual's DNA being combined with an A.T. organ to make one) they can't gain any other ability than what they have, with the exception of the previously mentioned ways to improve or enhance one's ability.
If someone who lacks any ability from Transcendence or T-Forging gains a T-Forged item created for or by someone else, they can use the abilities of the item, just not to the same degree as the original user or creator.
Transcendence and T-Forged Abilities don't transfer through genetics, meaning that the descendent of someone with an ability can't gain it through birth. It has been noted that they can gain a similar ability if they were to become a Transcendent or gain a T-Forged item.
Due to how common it is to travel for the sake of exploration or gaining abilities, crews of Pirates and Non-M.C.S Monster Hunters are quite common too, although the M.C.S is opposed to both.
Transcendent and T-Forged abilities have been documented to come in different categories which are as follows:
Generation: Can generate or release something from the user.
Transformation: Can alter or enhance the user (or others) in some way.
Manipulation: Can control something either preexisting or generated by the user.
Summoning: Can create/summon a separate entity that's usually bonded to the user. Since it tends to mix with Manipulation a lot, it's still being debated in many groups and island whether this is an official type.
Hybrid: A combination of several types. The more types combined, the rarer it is.
Aberrant: Can utilize an ability that doesn't match the description of the others. This is often the rarest type.
Species based abilities aren't categorized, as they're something that isn't gained based on the individual.
Now that I've explained the details, here's the Character Template.
Sexuality and Pronouns:
Place of Birth (Can be a name and description or just a description):
Transcendence or T-Forged Ability:
Other Abilities and Skills:
Goal or Goals:
For the sake of avoiding having anything too powerful, OP, Omni, Meta, and Absolute abilities aren't allowed. Technically Transcendent and Ascendent abilities aren't allowed either. The Transcendent abilities in the RP are only Transcendent in name, but they aren't powerful enough to be literally Transcendent.
Aside from that, all kinds of events happen in this world, ranging from disasters to monster attacks, to expeditions or tournaments. It all depends on what you want to be involved in or have your character involved in. Let me know if you have and questions or ideas.
