Properties[]
As an archetype, Father Time is a personification/entity of time that focuses on the flow of time, passing of the years, birth, death and aspects of time by embodying it in the form of the father, and normally is an older looking humanoid male with a powerful scythe, an hourglass and sometimes a pair of large wings. However, this does not apply to every Father Time archetype in description, but they are always some forms of temporal entity-type being.
Father Time is also a companion of the Death, often taking his scythe. This temporal being is also said to be the grownup/fully realized version of the Baby New Year, with each year that passes, the Baby New Year becomes the new Father Time archetype, until the next new year for all time. Mother Nature is sometimes paired with Father Time, acting as her balancing counterpart. However temporal mothers or “Mother Time” are unheard of in folklore and mythos making this a more male figure-based archetype.

Trivia[]
- As an image Father Time's origins are curious in nature. The ancient Greeks themselves began to associate Chronos, their word for time, with the agricultural god Cronus, who had the attribute of a harvester's sickle. The Romans equated Cronos with Saturn, who also had a sickle, and was seen as an old man. The wings and hourglass were added in the early Renaissance, and he eventually became a companion of the Grim Reaper who was the personification of Death, often taking his scythe or having a duplicate of it. The Egyptian symbol of eternity in the form a snake eating its own tail may have also been attribute of his.
