The user is a messenger, a foot soldier responsible for carrying messages between units during war. Runner soldiers were very important to military communications, before telecommunications became commonplace. They were men whose primary role was to deliver critical pieces of information from one command unit to another. Not only that, but runner soldiers also needed to make themselves familiar with areas of the front line as their battalions moved in and out.

Messengers were considered lesser diplomats, usually in service of a king or lord. They delivered news and messages across the land. To do so effectively, they had to have topographical knowledge, know how to read and write and be able to work with horses. Feathered messengers were prevalent, and pigeons were used to maintain knowledge of where troops were on the map and how they were progressing. They even rode in baskets in the first tanks, ready to send back news of these new machines' trundling advances.
