The archetype for characters that are mystics, a being who wields Mysticism.
Also Called[]
- Mystic Practitioner
- Religious Wielder
Properties[]
The user is a practitioner of mysticism, an occult and/or religious practice used to seek communion with and/or access a higher power, which in turn gives users unprecedented access to Esoteric Power. The higher patron is often a deity but may be an angel, demon, divine spirit, nature spirit, or transformation/expression of the user. The longer a mystic remains faithful to their patron and/or stays connected to their power, the more power they will be able to access and control.
Novice mystics may be required to enter a state of mind or perform a prayer, ritual, or other act of piousness for every time they need to wield their powers, while more practiced mystics may have their enduring loyalty/connection rewarded with open access to powers. Malefic patrons (evil gods, unholy pantheons, or demons) may also demand ritualistic sacrifices from mystics.
Mystics may find access to power is harmful to the user, particularly if the mystic's supernatural sponsor is a malefic deity or other evil power. While benevolent patrons often shield mystics from the harmful effects of wielding their power, even nature mystics may experience harms from neutrally aligned forces.
