"I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall."
― God (Psalm 82:6-7)
"For millennia, we have survived. Made others sacrifice in the name of our prosperity - so that they may in turn find redemption. Who are you, a human, once a mortal, to defy our traditions!?"
― Khan Maykr to the Doom Slayer (Doom Eternal)
"He is part of me. Bound to my soul. He made me a god. For now, at least."
― Fire Thunder God Liu Kang (Mortal Kombat 11)
""Hairless Simians." Yes. Playthings of Angels and Demons. The Forgotten Class... but they were meant for so much more. Humans were always meant to embody the Universal Balance. They were created to evolve."
― Lord of the Hollows (Darksiders 3)
""I was a slave until I died. Then I was reborn a god. I kneel before no one."- "
― Teth-Adam (Black Adam)

The archetype of a character who was a normal then gained godly power.

Also Called[]

  • Apotheosized Mortal
  • Deified Mortalis/Mortal
  • Perfected Mortal
  • The God Who Is Not
  • Transcendent Mortal
  • Mortal Deity Physiology
  • Mortal God/Goddess Physiology

Fiction-Specific Terms[]

  • Breaking the Limiter (One-Punch Man)

Properties[]

The character was a Normal who gained the ability to wield transcendent superpowers and may even have gained a transcendent physiology. The powers may be the result of a power inducing event/incident, Advanced Technology, Exotic Technology, Magic Objects, mystic relics, powerful objects, divine blessings, some other empowerment, or a combination of sources. The path to transcendence may also be achieved through years of study and practice in Magic and other Supernatural Arts.

The characters have become sufficiently powerful enough in their own right to be considered a god. They have enough raw power to rival even the most prominent godly individuals across worlds and time. They possess access to unparalleled capabilities despite their origins without considerable powers and abilities tied to their source. Their newfound divinity enhances their natural characteristics to godlike levels, making them nearly all-powerful and virtually unstoppable beings.

The trick to being a god of mortal descent is due to lacking any superior qualities (no genetic enhancements, no astonishing ancestral background, no latent genetic abnormalities for power potential).

Due in part to this, the various means for mortals to become gods are limitless. The physical/emotional/mental and relational means of such grounded change gives options for many forms of divine admiration. Many mortals undergo remarkable transformations from their baseline racial standpoint to become something else in its entirety. The transcended mortal has the one quality that many divines in their stagnant ways generally lack: the power of ever-constant change. While most gods and their legions are set in their ways, mortals continue to grow and deviate and evolve. Thus, they can learn new, unprecedented methods which they share with one another.
