Hellboy (Hellboy/BPRD) was destined to release the Ogdru Jahad and bring about the end of the world, but he rebelled against his fate and made his own destiny as he fights for humanity.

Properties

The circumstance that the user is given powers related to their role of their own making in the fulfillment of a particular goal created by their own choices. In-story users are never chosen by fate, gods or sorcerers but rather create a destiny of their own making that will forever be bound to the user, making said user a self-created being who decides for themselves following the path they made for themselves.

Unlike Usurp Worth, user don't have to steal the powers/destiny of others, but rather create their destinies themselves.

Kenta Yumiya (Beyblade Metal Saga) was never supposed to be a Legendary Blader as destiny did not choose him. However, he was able to take Ryuga's place in the fight against Nemesis after Ryuga sacrificed his life to give Kenta his power.

Light Yagami (Death Note) obtained Ryuk's Death Note by sheer chance, but nonetheless took it upon himself to rid the world of crime and change the world using its power.

Unlike the DigiDestined across the rest of the multiverse, Takato Matsuki, Henry Wong, and Rika Nonaka (Digimon Tamers) obtained Digimon partners by chance, but nonetheless took it upon themselves to protect their world from hostile Digimon.

Leon (Disciple of the Holy Sword) was chosen by the legendary hero, Rodrick himself in spite of the Goddness' prophecy.

Son Goku (Dragon Ball series) was first believed to be the Legendary Super Saiyan by his father Bardock and Prince Vegeta. Though this fact became false, he was the first Saiyan of his generation to transform into a Super Saiyan...

...and singlehandedly defeat Frieza during the events on Planet Namek.

Vegeta (Dragon Ball series) originally believed himself to be the Legendary Super Saiyan. Though this fact became false, Vegeta, like Goku, he was able to transform into a normal Super Saiyan, but he still managed to take on many threats in the universe.

Unlike the rest of the Happiness Charge Pretty Cure team, Megumi Aino/Cure Lovely (HappinessCharge Pretty Cure!) became a Cure by pure chance.

It was only through sheer happenstance that Nanoha Takamachi (Lyrical Nanoha) encountered a being who knew about the existence of magic and that she happened to have great magical potential, but she chose to become a magical girl and fight for good regardless.

Simon (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) stumbled across the Gurren Lagann mecha by chance, but nonetheless used it to become the savior of the universe.

Because her daughter wasn't old enough Masane Amaha (Witchblade anime) became the bearer of Witchblade instead, but because she wasn't its true bearer it would ultimately destroy her but knowing that because her daughter was the true chosen bearer, she vowed that if she is destroyed, she'd take the witchblade with her, forbidding it from ever taking her daughter. A vow made true to her end.

Comics/Cartoons

While it was intended for his grandfather, Ben Tennyson (Ben 10 series) received the Omnitrix instead, using its power to become a superhero.

Danny Fenton/Phantom (Danny Phantom) may have gained his powers by an accident, but with his new found abilities he took responsibility, becoming a defender of both Earth and the Ghost Zone...

...eventually saving both worlds and becoming a renowned hero all over the Earth.

While intended to be her father Trigon's instrument to bring about the apocalypse, Raven (DC Comics) ultimately rebelled against her fate, defeating Trigon, saving the world, and gaining the freedom to make her own destiny.

Unlike the Avatars after him, Wan (The Legend of Korra) was never chosen by anyone, but in helping Raava he became the first Avatar who forever chose to be the keeper of the Balance thus creating the Avatar Cycle.

Unlike the other Lion Guards (The Lion Guard) Kion's team was consist of 5 different animals instead of all of the members being lions.

Live Television/Movies

While not the true subject of the Shanshu Prophecy, in sacrificing himself to save the world from the First Evil, Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) nonetheless ascended to become a champion and hero of the people in his own right.

Teth-Adam/Black Adam (DC Extended Universe), after his son Hurut sacrificed himself to save him by lending his powers to him, he became the champion of the council of the Wizards and protector of Kahndaq.

Goku (Dragonball Evolution) was destined to become Oozaru and aid Piccolo in destroying the world, but he rejected this fate and made his own, using Oozaru's power to defeat Piccolo instead.

Zhen (Kung Fu Panda)

Emmet (The LEGO Movie) was first thought to be a chosen hero known as The Special One, but it was revealed to be a lie making him just a completely ordinary person, but when he found his faith in himself, he took it a upon himself to save the day as the hero of the story.

Neo (The Matrix) revealed the truth that the prophecy about him saving humans from the machines was a lie and that it was just another system of control. However, he continued to fight on against the Machines he has made himself an Unchosen One and ultimately ending the war.

While initially meant to simply be a body double for his sister Lauren, the true Red Samurai Ranger, Jayden Shiba (Power Rangers Samurai) ultimately proved instrumental in defeating Master Xandred and saving the world from the Nighloks after the Sealing Symbol failed.

Although he wasn't trained or born to be a Samurai, Antonio Garcia (Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai) has put in work to be a samurai despite not being a traditional one...

...self-teaching and training himself without anyone helping him to the point he can go toe to toe with Jaden in hand to hand combat...

...And thanks to his Engineering Mastery he was able to make his own morpher from an old broken phone and become the Gold Ranger Samurai.

Even though he wasn't supposed to be Spider-Man, Miles Morales (Spider-Verse Trilogy) managed to prevent the universe' destruction after his universe's Spider-Man died.

Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) was believed to be the Chosen One by Obi Wan, Yoda, and Maul. Though this fact became false, Luke in a way fulfilled his destiny as he became a Jedi and brought his father Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader back to the Light side of the Force so he fulfill his destiny to bring balance back to the Force.

Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural) were originally supposed to be Chosen Ones destined to host Lucifer and Michael for the end of the world, but they refused their fates and went on to create their own.

Video Games

As the reincarnation of Dracula, Soma Cruz (Castlevania) was destined to become the new Dark Lord and resume his reign of terror, but he refused this fate and went on to create his own.

Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII series) was never in SOLDIER and subconsciously created a false persona that he was, but thanks to his friends, he began to accept himself for who he is and become a true hero saving the world from Sephiroth.

Robin (Fire Emblem: Awakening) was born and bred specifically to be the vessel in which the Fell Dragon Grima could be reborn and bring about the end of the world, but they rejected this fate and made their own, playing an instrumental role in Grima's ultimate demise.

Sora (Kingdom Hearts) gained the Keyblade through chance. Riku, his best friend, was chosen to wield the keyblade, but in his corruption by darkness and Sora understanding the power of friendship, the Keyblade instead chose Sora, earning his position as keybearer himself.

Unlike his previous incarnations, Toon Link (The Legend of Zelda) was not initially recognized by the gods as a chosen hero, only being labeled the Hero of Winds through his own choices and efforts in re-empowering the Master Sword and reassembling the Triforce of Courage.

While not the reincarnation of the Hero's Spirit as she believed, Linkle (Hyrule Warriors) nonetheless became a hero in her own right and played an instrumental role in the war against Cia and Ganondorf.

Commander Shepard (Mass Effect), an ordinary-yet-skilled soldier who stumbled upon knowledge of the galaxy-destroying Reapers by sheer chance and chose to dedicate themselves to stopping them.

While Makoto Yuki (Persona 3) and/or Kotone Shiomi (Persona 3 Portable) were technically chosen by Aigis to seal Death/Pharos away, that was largely because they were the only people nearby who could house him; the events leading up to their being used as the vessels were a random accident that could have happened to anyone.

Illidan Stormrage (Warcraft series) was originally seen as the Child of Light and Shadow mentioned in Xe'ra’s prophecy meant to bring an end to the age of demons, however he rejected this, declaring that can be no Chosen One, but he still managed to have a hand in ending the Burning Legion’s reign.

Others

Of the six members of the Animorphs, Jake and Rachel (Animorphs) are the only two not chosen for any particular reason by the Ellimist, but they were just as instrumental in saving the Earth from the Yeerk Empire.

While not chosen for any particular purpose, Ruby Rose (RWBY) nonetheless got involved in the fight against Salem by sheer chance, and she ended up becoming the de facto leader in the war, inspiring others even in the darkest of times.

While intended to be the new vessel for Thanatos, Che Heart (Ordeal) defied this fate with some intervention from his mother, but ultimately decides to fight against Thanatos’ forces as the new host for Illios...

...While Abel Legasov, Thanatos's relative was taken over as his new vessel.
