The character is a vengeance spirit, a spirit/ghost who represents or is associated with vengeance, revenge, retribution, and even karma. They return from the afterlife to seek revenge for a cruel, unnatural or unjust death they went through, or even the case of the spirit's body not being buried properly, or their grave being disturbed. These types of spirits were fairly common in mythology and greatly feared among civilizations.
