"In that world, between beginning and end lie established happenings laid out chapter to chapter in the book of The Almighty Being. And each and every event written there emanates from the will of the author."
― Opening Words (Granstream Saga)
"We follow these scripts written by an omniscient being known as The Storyteller. Playing out the roles we're given from the day we're born until the day we die."
― Ex (Grimms Notes)
"Those of us who still believe in God tend toward serious ambivalence about his handiwork.
But we found out that there is a God, and it is SCP-001.
And it’s a bunch of horror writers."
― In regards to SCP-001 (S Andrew Swann's Proposal) (SCP Foundation)

The power to be the author of existence. Narrative version of Omnipotence. Opposite to Reader Embodiment.

  • Narrative Omnipotence
  • The Author/Storyteller/Writer

Capabilities[]

Users are the authors of their verses, possessing "abilities" that authors would have over their own works, such as being able to change and alter any aspect of their work, know everything about it, and be completely unreachable to anything in it. They view their verse's characters, powers, and events, as nothing more than words on a page, as they usually are.

Authors can alter the reality and fundamental rules of their works at a whim, introducing new laws, new entities, new locations, new concepts, etc. to fit the narrative they wish to tell. As a result, they can completely manipulate the totality of their works without limit.

Some users are manifestations of authors or are themselves characters with author-like authority and power, being able to interact with the setting and characters within the boundaries of their verses.

Types of Author Authority[]

Type I[]

The weakest tier of Author Authority. These are god-like entities in-verse, usually even the strongest character, period. They possess a plethora of plot-based abilities, such as being able to induce tropes and story-based clichés to mess with the other characters. Most of them usually have 4th Wall Awareness, and can perceive the entirety of their narrative from start to finish. Sometimes, these characters may appear human, while in other cases, they may manifest as intangible beings or abstracts.

Author avatars are also considered to be under this category, as while they are literal self-inserts of the real-world author, they are still acting on the will of said real-world author. They are also not always equal in 'power', as that depends on the cosmology of their verse and how much it encompasses. For example, the author avatar of a series about alternate dimensions and the multiverse would be more 'powerful' than the author avatar of a comic strip teaching a lesson about driving. Furthermore, the influence of the author on the narrative can be nullified by Coincidence Nullification.

Type II[]

Us! All of us are essentially authors, using our imaginations to create and manipulate worlds. We are completely unreachable to all forms of fiction and are capable of changing them by imagining them or recounting them differently. We can make our characters think and do whatever we want them to, and they are unable to do anything to retaliate.

While it seems that our control over our verses are absolute, this is not entirely true. Despite concepts such as Word of God, we do not know everything and anything that happens in our particular verse all of time. Some parts of the story may not be thought off yet, some aspects of the timeline or the cosmology left incomplete, and not every sub-atomic particle accounted for in our minds. Moreover, we are not absolute in the real-world either, in action or in thought. As we are all humans, we have human limitations. Our thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives can be influenced by events or other people in the real world, and that may affect how we imagine a story, making the story not totally ours in a sense, and hence not making us totally absolute.

Type III[]

The only ones that qualify for this category are those that are trans-fictional and truly omnipotent, being absolute, perfect, and undefinable. From a story standpoint, they are the end-all be-all of narratives, the creators and the destroyers. They know absolutely anything and everything about absolutely anything and everything, from the totality to the infinitely and impossibly minute. They are every narrative in every narrative plane, and have undisputed dominion of them. From the most powerful to the most insignificant, their authority is completely absolute. These are the true authors.
