I wouldn't try to save the world, that's for sure ^ ^; It would take a hell lot more than one guy with advanced technology to stop humanity from destroying itself, if anything such attempt would probably just create a chain reaction and worsen/accelerate the process in the end.
I would... built myself an impervious, self-sufficient and super-realistic virtual reality, go back in time to a more peaceful era, and install it in a safe and radically unreachable corner of the world, then daydream the days away in my virtual paradise without a care, periodically resetting the situation by moving the whole installation back in time whenever humanity inevitably reaches some beyond-return self-destructive threshold all over again.
So, basically: "Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's going to die, come watch TV."
Nothing so nihilistic, just disillusioned pragmatism, kinda like; "This is way above your paygrade, don't ruin your chance at happiness desperately trying to save a world hell-bent on self-destruction, that doesn't even give a rats ass about you in the first's place".
What's the more likely scenario ? Them listening to reason and banding together for the greater good ? Or taking immediate corporate advantage of it any way they can to increase their power and assert domination over one another ?
If the first was true, we wouldn't be neck-deep in such a mess in the first place ^ ^;
Oh, thank goodness, as smart as the characters of that show think they are, they can't outsmart nihilism. Though, that's probably more due to public demand and sales than anything else.
And yes, the naive hero's journey to save the world from themselves is just that: naive. The world doesn't care about anything but its own survival. If you're blessed enough to think outside of your animal instincts, just leave the other beast behind and make your own heaven.
I would do the same [make perfect virtual super-realistic impervious utopia somewhere unreachable and go back in time to install it in a better time, then daydream my days without a care,] but bring my family in the whole thing.
Good point, I forgot this part. Though I would make sure I keep a secure higher control of the entire system, so they don't end up ruining everything for one reason or another (greed, ego, insanity, etc.)
I would also simulate my dad in the whole thing, because yunno, he's dead.
Spending your days in a safe virtual paradise is definitely the right choice. All the misery of the world can be held at bay here, and even death can be defeated.
Yes. Instead of trying to save the world, you can just ignore it and live happily.
