"There are seven beings that are not Gods,
that existed before humanity dreamed of Gods,
that will exist after the last God is dead.
There are seven beings that exist because,
deep in our hearts, we know that they exist."
― The Sandman (The Wake)

The state of being a tangible representation of a concept. Not to be confused with Avatar Physiology, Concept Physiology, Embodiment Mode, Idea Embodiment or Incarnation.

Also Called[]

  • Anthropomorphic Personification
  • Embodiment
  • Essophysical Nature
  • Abstract/Conceptual Avatar/ Embodiment/ Encompassment/ Incarnate/ Manifestation/ Personification/ Representation
  • Abstract Existence

Capabilities[]

Users are tangible representations or manifestations of an idea, abstraction, or another tangible thing. They are usually humanoid in appearance but with particular physical characteristics that take after the concept they embody along with personality traits and behavior associated with said concept. More importantly, most embodiments have some form of affinity with their concept, either with their bodies being made out of it or being empowered by it when the concept is present. They would also possess some form of control over their concept depending on the affinity between the personification and the concept itself.

Levels of Embodiments[]

Type I[]

Allegorical characters. Embodiments which only serve to represent themes, concepts, and ideas fundamentally bigger than they are. Authors use these characters/group of characters/locations/civilizations/events to highlight, insinuate, and/or to push their own agenda about anything, be it feminism, collectivism, social media, the seven deadly sins, politics, etc. Authors may make the embodiment do or represent something in order to a tell a certain narrative, even if the embodiment itself may not completely conform to it. Embodiments of these type might also be literal personifications, that is, objects given human traits or vice versa.

Type II[]

These embodiments have some level of affinity with their associated concept. For humanoids, it could be their personality, origins, or supernatural abilities. They may also exhibit traits that are stereotypical to said concept, used again to tell a certain narrative or to highlight a character's uniqueness.

Type III[]

These embodiments are the concepts themselves, and possess great to absolute control over their associated concept. They are usually primordial, cosmic, and/or divine entities such as polytheistic gods (e.g. The Twelve Olympians). Most of these embodiments may even be the source of the concept in the first place, and their death would result in said concept's destruction.

To put it simply, a ultimate level conceptual embodiment of humans would be the source of all of humans and anything related to humans, would be flawlessly indestructible over the concept of them, and have nigh-omni/potence/science/presence over the concept of humans and anything related to them. An absolute level conceptual embodiment would have omni/potence/science/presence over the concept of humans and anything immediately related to them (All thoughts, concepts, ideas, actions, dreams, wishes, etc).

Applications[]

Note: The levels do not correspond to the types of embodiments listed above.
