Shields (Young Justice) are special patches that suppress Superboy's human DNA, allowing him to use the full extent of his Kryptonian powers.

Capabilities

The user is able to suppress their own or others' DNA, either fully or partially.

Applications

• Immunity to Genetic Tracking, as the suppressed DNA hides the user.
  • Immunity to Magic Detection if the tracking involves sensing the user's magic.
• Power Negation/Erasure/Deactivation, if target's powers are linked to a gene.

• May be limited to either their own DNA or others, not both.
• Suppressing too much or certain parts of DNA may have adverse effects.

Courier (Marvel Comics) can suppress his X-Gene so that he does not register as a mutant on scanners.

The Mutant Cure (X-Men: The Last Stand) is meant to permanently suppress the mutant X-gene, stripping mutants of their powers. However, the effects of the cure were found to be only temporary as mutants later regained their abilities.
