- "A shaft of energy shot out from the eye, bathing him in its glow. The next instant, Carapar shattered into fragments as if he had been made of crystal. Then there was nothing left of him but a pile of glittering dust on the stone floor."
- ― Narrator, Federation of Fear
- "My mouth is a portal into a dark dimension. Even I ignore where it leads. I sent your friend in here… and you are next."
- ― Vanilla Ice to Jean Pierre Polnareff (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part III: Stardust Crusaders)
- "It's a light grenade. Pull the pin, set it down - anyone who picks it up... pfffft! Grenade remains. Person... disappears!"
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Who'd pick it up?"
"Look."
(reads the Grenade) "Pick. Me Up."
"Diabolical, isn't it?" - ― Sirk and Dick Nelson (Mom and Dad Save the World)
The power to collapse a target into dust, disassembling or destabilizing them on a microscopic level. Sub-power of Telekinesis and Transmutation. Destruction version of Matter Manipulation. Not to be confused with Dust Transmutation, Granulation or Ash Transmutation.
Also Called[]
- Decomposition/Deconstruction/Dematerialization
- Disintegrating Touch
- Disintegration Inducement
- Dissociation
- Matter Destruction
Fiction-Specific Terms[]
- Cataclysm (Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir)
Capabilities[]
The user can cause targets (whether organic or inorganic material) to lose cohesion by various means. Some can make matter fall apart into dust, wipe away their target on a molecular/sub-atomic level or even revert matter into pure energy. Regardless of the means, the target is reduced to either molecular/sub-atomic dust or energy but not absolutely annihilated.
Applications[]
- Death Inducement by disintegrating a life-form.
- Destruction by disintegrating an inanimate object.
- Disassembly by separating a target into pieces.
- Dust Generation by turning a target into dust.
- Melting by reducing a target into liquid.
Variations[]
- Atomic Cancellation: disintegrate by eliminating electric field that holds atomic structure together.
- Atomic Dissociation: a catastrophic effect that dissociates atomic/molecular structure.
- Cellular Disintegration: disintegrate organic cells.
- Disintegration Aura: an aura that disintegrates anything within.
- Disintegration Beam: beam that can disintegrate matter.
- Dissolution: dissolve anything/everything.
- DNA Disintegration: dissolute living bio-matter.
- Electric Field Negation: sap electric fields turning objects dust, dust into atoms and atoms into nothing.
- Evaporation: disperse objects into gases.
- Granulation: turn objects into minute particles.
- Incineration: disintegrate the target via intense temperatures.
- Molecular Dispersion: disintegrate by separating constituent molecules.
- Self-Disintegration: disintegrate one's body molecules to dust and eventually, integrate back to normal form.
Associations[]
- Antimatter and Dark Matter Manipulation may have disintegrating properties.
- Charged Particles Manipulation
- Dimensional Manipulation or Teleportation may accidentally cause this.
- Elemental Manipulation
- Life-Force Absorption may cause this to happen.
- Pulverization
- Molecular Manipulation
- Shattering
- Totality Destruction unravel the whole of existence from beginning to end.
Limitations[]
- Reforming
- Requires concentration or focus to properly aim.
- Ambient Resource Construction can reverse the effects on inorganic objects.
- May have limited range, including touch only.
- May be triggered involuntarily.
- Clothes and equipment may not disintegrate with the target.
- Full deconstruction may take a long time.
- May only work to destroy, making reassembly difficult or impossible.
- Users may not be immune to their own power.
- May only be able to disintegrate organic or inorganic materials.
- May effect but cannot kill users of Absolute Immortality.
- Will not work on Flawless Indestructibility.
- Will not work on the four elements of water, earth, fire, and even air.
