As the result of the rules placed by his adoptive mother and Jacob, The Man in Black (Lost) was unable to kill Jacob or his candidates, and required a third party to kill Jacob and tried to trick the candidates into killing each other

Capabilities

User can hurt and injure others without killing them. The user can deal non-lethal damage, completely disable an opponent without killing them. Some users have attacks that disable an opponent without leaving any lasting damage, while others may injure the opponent but not to the point of taking their lives.

This power is distinct from bestowing immortality onto others as those subject to the user's powers are still capable of dying due to natural causes or by third party.

This power generally manifests in two forms:

• "Realistic": the subject will die without corporeal necessities or without the use of organs meant to fight off diseases.
• "Absurd": the user dismembers, eviscerates and decapitates without the subject being actually maimed. The subject retains a degree of control over any limbs that were severed regardless and be able to reattach the body parts of themselves or others who share their disposition. The subject's sensory organs still also function even without being connected to their brain.

Despite being incredibly murderous, Frieza (Dragon Ball) can control his lethal nature when he needs to, such as during the Tournament of Power, when he viciously defeated Jimeze but didn't kill him to avoid being disqualified.

With the power of the Ope Ope no Mi, Trafalgar D. Water Law (One Piece) removes Smoker's heart without any lethal effects…

…and dismembers his opponents’ bodies.

Shaolin monks (The Simpsons) tearing out Homer's heart and then placing it back in swiftly, thus averting any lethal effects.

While she can harm them, due to an oath she made in the past, Saya Kisaragi (Blood-C) is incapable of directly killing a human.
