The user is able to manipulate liminality, the conceptual aspect of ambiguity and thresholds for events, time, space and entities. There are various instances concerning occurrences, locations and even living beings (whether temporal, spatial or existential) that do not conform to any particular type of designation. These are liminal points.
Traditionally, liminality referred to the middle stages of rites of passage, where a participant symbolically exists in a state of transition. They have passed one phase but have not finished the next, potentially final one. They are in a form of limbo.
Liminality deals with various matters that lack some form of definition. For events, a liminal period can refer to a middle ground between start and end, such as instances that lead up to a graduation or the intermediate parts of a ritual. It can involve temporal events possessing threshold characteristics. Twilight (between day and night), solstices (daylight changes), equinoxes (seasonal changes) and even New Year's Day can be considered liminal due to their transitional natures.
These periods do not quite fit into specific categories. Spatially speaking, liminality can refer to both physical and spiritual areas. Crossroads, border zones and even passageways are liminal as they are connecting structures that do not conform to one particular position. Supernatural locations like Limbo and Purgatory are liminal because they are intermediate realms between life and the afterlife.
Existentially speaking, there are entities that are traditionally considered liminal. Mythological hybrids such as centaurs and shapeshifters such as lycanthropes are liminal beings due to not fitting into specific categories. Even ghosts are considered as such since, even though they are dead, they continue to live as specialized life-forms.
Users who can control liminality can manifest supernatural powers on various levels. They can manipulate intermediate areas or events, controlling their aspects and contents. They can command or even create intermediate beings that can feature characteristics derived from other entities. They may even be able exist or operate as liminal beings themselves.
