You might want to try and think of your own page ideas instead of just creating other peoples ideas.
Its true that nobody owns the pages until they officially made and everybody is free to create them, its better to try and think up your own new powers.
I have nothing against those that make pages based on my ideas (and I'm fine with it, so long the idea I had for the page is similar to what I had in mind), but it makes it a little difficult for other users to create new powers if all their ideas are taken before they get the chance to make them.
Just something to keep in mind for the future. and i mean no disrespect for your efforts.
Also if your going to make pages, you should try posting them on the mainspace so other users can help or improve on them
Not stopping you or anything, just offering some advice for the future.
Thank you Bro and I would take the advice seriously and let other people a chance I would upload the powers as main if no know does them they could help to develope them . Anyway I wanna thank you for the ideas for the powers:).
You might want to focus just on making edits on the wikia now, since TVtropes is no longer functioning as of today.
The site has been wiped of all content after a major crash. Everything that was ever posted, edited or uploaded is gone. Along with all user accounts.
I'm sorry to say but your not going to be able to post outside links anymore. Because as things stand now there isn't too much chance of bringing the site back to the way it was, and it may end up having to be decommissioned if they can't retrieve the general memory (which was also effected by the crash).
Thank you for the Information Bro Its surprised me that the page was gone im accepted that. Anyway I'm so sorry for my Behavour from the last weeks that I stressed you and the admints. I wouldn't do it again anymore and help you guys as much as I can to develope this site hope it get more attraction to other peoples.
BTW I created Gestalt Monotheistic Deity Physiology back as Blog if you want to use it for anything feel free to use
And I Also created Absolute Infinite Embodiment as User Blog as well a Variation of Omni Embodiment hope you like it
How did a mere crash manage to wipe out data on this scale ? And how comes such an enormous site didn't have a proper back-up system ? It sounds as if the Scarlet Witch said "No More TV Tropes" rather than a technical issue.
That could take days to months to restore the site back as normal state of we have luck. But many sites lost their existence due problems like server crash and other hardware problems like some download server links or free movie sites unfortunately :(
It's just a temporary service outage. TV Tropes is back up, I just went there - I don't know who you heard from that it was gone. A server crashing doesn't destroy all of the data because the database is maintained through the server crashing. Even if the entire actual OS for a server "crashed" (wasn't bootable), you could still mount the storage and then retrieve the database files and transfer them fairly easily.
Also, most sites are hosted on clouds and not as single servers. So, even if one server goes down, the data still exists just fine somewhere else and will be used instead. The only way for a site of that size to die as a result of a "crash" would be for every machine that had that data to go down. As someone who has worked with cloud computing systems, it'd actually be quite a feat to brick that many systems at once. Even an EMP would likely not work, since those systems are likely to be distributed around the world. Not to mention that much like Superpower Wiki, several copies are likely to be actively hosted at the same time and provided to people based on where they are in the world to ensure quick access.
"With a server crash, its a lot harder to restore the data because even backups would be corrupted."
Also, only absolute newbie garbage systems only have backups on the same box the system is running on. Backups are typically on external media, either on a separate cloud storage (probably the case for TvTropes) or on tape drives/other deep storage media. Please don't spread misinformation about how computer systems work and standard practices around server hosting.
What they said was that it was a hardware failure on their database server. The fact that the site still works at all tells me that they either have some kind of a backup system, or that the problem has now been resolved. Looking at the new edits page, I can see edits going back several days. There might have been some minor data loss, but nothing on the scope of "TVtropes is no longer functioning as of today ".
Everything being taken offline is a thing that can happen to web-based services, and it doesn't mean it's gone forever. It means it's down. Kinda like how data stored on your computer isn't all gone forever when you shut it down.
"That doesn't sound like a temporary service outage to me." right, but that's because you don't seem to know what you're talking about Sage. You seem to think that one server having a fit is the end of that entire site, but in IT we'd call that a Single Point of Failure, and it'd be something that's handled with added redundancy/otherwise addressed. People wouldn't be able to access their accounts or the pages because the information that is compared against when you authenticate is also stored in a database, and from the sounds of it likely on the same machine (or even the same database, but hopefully not!) as the main site. On the twitter they said it was a driver issue, which is really not too hard to fix so long as you know where the incompatibility lies and you know of a driver to fix it. Barring that, I'm sure they have a backup. They probably have a backup of the OS (or the server host does) and then also a backup of the database separately.
It's fair to say that they are back up based on the fact that 9 hours later it's back up and it has history. Clicking the history of pages, I can see edits between today and as far back as Nov 26th of 2019, and that's without digging or clicking next page on histories. It seems to be there. I don't doubt that it went down, what I'm saying is don't go around fear mongering about the death of TV Tropes over a small outage. Quit acting like a professional speaking authoritatively on this topic when you so obviously aren't, because it's spreading fear and misinformation.
Losing several hard drives simultaneously sucks, but the server host can just replace them (and they did). Normally this happens and it's part of a RAID cluster so it doesn't really matter, it was a freak accident based on the information I am seeing that enough failed that the RAID couldn't carry on despite the failures.
All they said on the official twitter post was, and I quote, " Dear Tropers, We are currently experiencing a hardware failure of our database server due to a firmware issue. We are working to get TV Tropes bak online. We'll update you as we make progress.". Your claim that it was down and gone were you coming up with things on your own, and was in fact misinformation. They never said there was "massive data loss". The claim that the site is "basically starting from scratch now" is misinformation. You claimed that it wasn't temporary and that this was stated personally by the TVTropes staff, and that appears to be misinformation. You claimed that the server itself for the site crashed and that would mean that all information "past and present" would be affected, which isn't true at all. You also claimed that the server crashing would mean that the backups are also corrupted, which is misinformation and a gross misunderstanding of why we make backups and standard practices for storing/making backups.
I don't think I need to carry on with more examples, even though I absolutely could, because I think I've made my point. You absolutely DID spread misinformation, and I think it's important when it's this far off base for me to say as such so that people who don't know better aren't made to panic by someone whose expertise on the topic of web services and server hosting is only in making themself sound like they know what they are talking about. It's one thing to have some misconceptions about how these things work, it's entirely another to lead others astray.
Also, no dip the pages appeared blank, if the database server was offline you couldn't query it. Querying the database is how the website retrieves content for those pages, so everything would appear blank. That doesn't mean it's gone forever, that means the node that stores that data is inaccessible at that moment. Your using that as evidence that it was actually gone forever is further proof that you shouldn't try to talk to speak authoritatively on this topic.
Well lets just hope everything gets recovered back to the way it was.
Some data might be lost and there might be some gaps in the history that might not be able to be full recovered, but as long as the site can still be used and edits can be made without another system failure like this then we can be happy.
Also hopefully that can find a way to avoid another firmware problem like this one, because crashing nearly all of their HDD's in one fell swoop just because of a firmware bug doesn't bode well if they can't figure out a way around it (the bug was apparently caused by number of operating hours that the HDDs can do before it crashes and resets, according to the forum post)
Well there is nothing we can do on this end about it, but at least we can review most of the pages again. So there is that. ^_^;;;
The reason things end up on the Superpower Fanon Wikia is usually that users there are in some way discontent with our rules. Most of the pages there are things that do not follow the site's guidelines - otherwise they'd be here and not there. Please do not make pages here based on what you find there.
At this point I think you aren't even bothering to read the trope descriptions anymore.
Word of God has absolutely nothing to do with ones voice.
Word of God is about and regarding authors notes about what is (and isn't) considered canon for a series.
I suggest you give the trope pages a rest and just focus on regular page edits instead. Because your not bothering to read the page definitions anymore and just trying to find anything you believe it fits
Einstein Sue isn't a trope. And fact it isn't even anything at all.
Its nothing more than Word Salad that has no basis in anything.
There is nothing on that page that suggests anything even remotely related to science.
All it is is just a couple of sentences with nothing in common with each other.
Sorry but there are no tropes relating to science embodiment on the tv tropes website.
Whoever wrote that page was just messing around or being a troll.
There is nothing that you suggested that covers Science Embodiment, and the ones you suggested are already covered by other pages on the wikia.
If you actually take the time to read Einstein Sue, you will see that whoever wrote it wasn't even trying to be coherent. Since the paragraphs don't really connect with each other and don't actually make any sense.
I'm so sorry Bro for making decision without talking to you and stressing you guys and now I read the guidelines and I wouldn't do the mistakes anymore sorry for the late answer I was busy with my work. Anyway Very nice Wikia/Fandom Great Work You did here and Nice Profile Picture Bro :) .
I also read how the Powers here works and now I know my mistakes I apologize, anyway can I add Ultimate Hybrid Physiology to the Wikia a guy named Azs asked me to add it here before I add it here I want to hear you opinion about it. I would Make the page a bit different and and use different applications.
I also found maybe the Right Tropes about Origin Trancendence and Freedom which I can add to their pages as Note if you agree with me.
Do not listen to AZS about anything regarding this wiki. He has been banned from here for gross misconduct, and the fact that he's asking people to change things here sickens me. He edits the Fanon wiki because he used alts and was extremely toxic in this space.
I was just wondering why the didn't ask you admins himself and know I understand.Anyway thank you for the information Necro and hope you guys are well since this Swag guy vandalize for a short time this site.
