Meta Manipulation

The power to manipulate notions on meta-level. Sub-power of Author Authority and Omni-Manipulation. Not to be confused with Metaphysics Manipulation. Advance version of Supernatural Manipulation. Lesser version of Absolute Manipulation.

Capabilities[]

The user can manipulate meta notions, narratives, concepts, and things that operate from "outside". These components and elements work under an introspective lens of how they come about and their place within the story or setting they originate; with this introspection and analysis comes an added depth to the otherwise plain idea occurring in the setting, affixing versatility coming from the perspective of how these ideas are on the "outside" to the "inside".

This power is most commonly seen in the form of metafictional abilities when a fictional character is capable of perceiving and interacting with the fictional nature of their world. This commonly results in powers such as perceiving and interacting with the fourth wall, invoking plot devices to cause various effects, medium-specific interactions like moving between, manipulating and breaking panels in a comic, and at higher levels altering the plot itself.

However, manipulation of notions on a meta-level can reasonably extend beyond this. 'Meta-level' commonly refers to a higher level of abstraction; a step further away from the concrete (tangible entities and phenomena). For example, rules are abstract and tend to govern the concrete. On the other hand, metarules are rules about rules and dictate things such as how rules are created or abolished, how rules can be changed who has the authority to do so, and what rules can and cannot govern. These are considered to be on a meta-level because, rather than being abstract rules about something concrete, they are abstract rules about something that is already abstract in and of itself.

This idea can feasibly be applied to any abstract notion. For example, while normal Existence Manipulation can operate on the level of the abstract notion of 'existence' to manipulate anything that is a part of existence, grant or revoke existence, manifest itself into existence, and so on, Meta Manipulation would forgo direct control over existence in favor of control over notions like what it means for something to exist, how anything comes into or out of existence and whether anything can be beyond existence, as well as what that would mean. In this way, Meta Manipulation does not necessarily have the same direct influence over the concrete as many powers do but instead achieves a far more fundamental level of influence.
