"If you open your mind, you will see that all the elements are one. Four parts of the same whole. Even metal is just a part of Earth, that has been purified and refined."
Guru Pathik talking to Aang about metal (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

The power to manipulate metal. Sub-power of Magnetism Manipulation. Variation of Earth Manipulation, Elemental Manipulation and Solid Manipulation.

Also Called[]

  • Metal Bending/Control
  • Metallic Control/Manipulation
  • Metal Element Control/Manipulation
  • Metallokinesis/Metalkinesis/Ferrokinesis

Capabilities[]

The user can create, shape and manipulate metal, a solid material (an element, compound, or alloy) that is typically hard, shiny, and features good electrical and thermal conductivity. Metals are generally malleable—they can be hammered or pressed permanently out of shape without breaking or cracking—as well as fusible (able to be fused or melted) and ductile (able to be drawn out into a thin wire).

Applications[]

Variations[]

Associations[]

As one of the Chinese Five Elements, metal is associated with:

Limitations[]

  • May be unable to create metal, being limited to manipulating only from already existing sources.
  • Distance, mass, precision, etc. depend upon the knowledge, skill, and strength of the user and their power's natural limits.
  • May be limited to certain metals.
  • Metal may be affected by everything that normal metals would be, although the user may be perfectly able to use their power to return the metal to its original shape and/or controlling it even under these forces:
  • Extremely vulnerable to Electricity Manipulation as metal conducts electricity.
  • May be weak against Magnetism Manipulation, although some metals (such as gold) are not magnetic/not strongly magnetic.
  • If it derives from Earth Manipulation, the user may only be able to manipulate the earth within metals; pure or refined metals would be nearly or entirely impossible to manipulate.
