" Everything is what I say it is! If I decide that granite is squeezable soft, it is! If I decide that cows have wings, they do! To put it another way, cows do not have wings because I don't want them to! My imagination and reality are virtually indistinguishable! All existence, except me, might as well be a figment of my imagination! Maybe it is! I might have just dreamed all this up, including wingless cows! But then, the whole point is that it makes no difference!"
― The Beyonder (Marvel Comics)

The state of being almost all-powerful. Lesser version of Omnipotence.

Also Called[]

  • Almost All-Powerful
  • Defective/Flawed/Imperfect Omnipotence
  • Limited/Quasi/Restricted Omnipotence
  • Semi/Virtual Omnipotence

Capabilities[]

The user possesses a quasi-omnipotent ability akin to that of a god, but is hindered by a particular limitation, restriction, or weakness that prevents them from attaining true omnipotence. This near-omnipotent capability can manifest as complete dominion over a specific domain or as an exceptional level of power, expertise, and influence across a wide range of areas. Users of this ability are Ultimate Beings as they are almost perfect.

Despite being limited, the user possesses unimaginable power at their will. Nigh-Omnipotence has various types: Some users are created or born with it and can innately learn their powers like breathing. Some users are awarded and require additional instruction to understand their potential fully. Those who are sealed or fused with it may need to understand their power and how to use it. Some users uses supernatural means to obtain this power and can master this with ease if they use some kind of knowledge-bestowing psychic ability.

The concept of nigh-omnipotence within fiction often lacks consistent proof across different fictional universes due to the diverse ways in which this power is utilized. Characters possessing nigh-omnipotence can embody various roles such as hero, anti-hero, antagonist, or any other character within a fictional setting. Additionally, they can be portrayed as witches, wizards, chaotic forces, tyrants, psychopaths, dictators, or in any other role imaginable. Another common characteristic of nigh-omnipotent beings is their behavior and mindset. Despite their immense power, they may exhibit traits and motivations akin to those of humans, such as selfishness, arrogance, greed, and a tendency to intimidate or manipulate others due to their perceived invincibility, even though they are not truly untouchable.

The differences between nigh-omnipotence and omnipotence are the range of applications one character can perform in their franchise. Nigh-Omnipotence is a term for any character that can virtually do almost anything they want. The user is in a high position in a hierarchy; only beings and forces on the same scale as the user can harm or kill them. Omnipotence, however, is truly limitless, a state of being that no one or anything in the past, currently, or will harm them. Beings with omnipotence are the supreme beings of their reproductive setting, commonly present in monotheistic religions, being God, while users of nigh-omnipotence can use any nigh-omnipotent ability such as divine-level-psionics, being nearly completely immortal or invincible, possessing nearly every power, having nearly infinite knowledge or presence over a subject, and, most commonly, manipulating reality through their mind or another medium, as long as they are not omnipotent.

They are not bound to any rules or laws, allowing them to overcome all of their limitations and weaknesses. They are only limited by their creator(s) and certain almighty laws. Only their creators can defeat them and limit/effect/manipulate/negate their powers. Despite this, they are the most powerful beings in their own realms.
