- If the user loses their connection to their deity/deities, they could lose their powers or become corrupted.
- their powers rely on the Shinto religion and pantheons, if the pantheons are removed or belief altered (for example humanity collectively "forgetting" the Shinto faith) they are rendered completely powerless, in this respect they have a form of belief-dependent power (much like many deities and spirits)
- their powers are weaker against entities or ailments that come from other belief systems, for example a spirit from Hindu mythology or Native American mythology is not likely to be deterred by rirtuals of a Shrine Maiden, thus they are usually only truly effective against beings from Shinto or closely related systems.
