They can alter plots, rewrite dialogue, or change the setting entirely, dragging characters from one genre into another or forcing a show to follow a different narrative arc altogether. With a thought, they can accelerate a slow-burning mystery into a rapid-fire montage, pause a tense standoff mid-scene, or rewind a pivotal moment to watch it again—or change the outcome entirely.

Their influence extends beyond mere editing. They can cross the boundary between fiction and reality, entering the world of the show themselves or pulling characters, props, and events out into the real world.
