The Ellimist is also not Omnipotent... "The Ellimist is an almost god-like being, displaying many reality warping powers, though it is stated several times that while he appears to be, he is NOT omnipotent."
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellimist
Uh, Doctor Manhattan was NOT omnipotent, he had telekinesis down to a subatomic level, teleportation, and the intelligence to use it. Just in case anyone was wondering why I removed it.
Genie from Aladdin and Sandman from the work of that name are both missing. Can't edit because page is locked. 69.110.228.81 23:02, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Different kinds of omnipotence[]
C. S. Lewis wrote of God that, "His Omnipotence means power to do all that is intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. You may attribute miracles to him, but not nonsense. This is no limit to his power. If you choose to say 'God can give a creature free will and at the same time withhold free will from it,' you have not succeeded in saying anything about God. Meaningless combinations of words do not suddenly acquire meaning simply because we prefix to them the two other words 'God can.'... It is no more possible for God than for the weakest of his creatures to carry out both of two mutually exclusive alternatives; not because his power meets an obstacle, but because nonsense remains nonsense even when we talk it about God."
This, and other attempts to resolve the omnipotence paradox demonstrate that there are different types or concepts of omnipotence. Some ... say ... something about being able to take self-contradictory actions. Others (including myself) insist that omnipotence cannot include self-contradictory actions because then it would not be a meaningful idea -- there would be no concept behind the words for the words to refer to, it would just be nonsense words. Others claim that if you insist that an action has to be meaningful that this somehow makes the actor less powerful, which is stupid but ... Basically, what I'm trying to say is that there are rational and stupid views on omnipotence, and that this page seems to assume that only the stupid view is "true omnipotence" or some such nonsense. Surely the omnipotence paradox ought to at least be addressed? --Nerd42 (talk) 01:39, July 20, 2014 (UTC)
Actually, I agree with you, and removed the image in which "God" lifts a stone that is too heavy for him to carry, which is also the header image for metapotence. As I understand it, metapotence is the explicitly "stupid"/"pure" version of omnipotence. Ordinary omnipotence should probably stick to being the most infinitely powerful being in existence that can do anything except contradict itself, and that's it. Couldn't one be omnipotent, omniscient and omnipotent without facing any mutual inconsistencies? TheDivineHost (talk) 14:09, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
