A pet peeve
This isn't an announcement or even really wiki business, but it's a thing I've noticed lately that's gotten under my skin a bit. It's not against the rules, I'm not gonna stop anyone from doing it, but man does it bug me.
And that's people saying 'Hmmm :thinking-emoji:' as a comment. Full stop, no other contribution to the discussion. Just saying 'Hmmm' or 'Hm' or even just the emoji and nothing else. If you say it and then follow it up with some actual contribution that's totally fine, or even if you say it after actually voicing your thoughts. But just saying 'Hmmmm' and nothing else gives of the vibe that you're trying to look astute or learned while actually doing nothing at all. It reminds me of people taking tests and not really knowin…
Explaining Archetypes and Traits
Hey all! So, a good while back we added two new namespaces to the wiki - Archetype and Trait. Most of you have probably seen these pages floating around – they always have the word 'Archetype:' or 'Trait:' on the front of the name - and some of you have made some pages about these. However, when we added them to the wiki it was without a lot of fanfare or explanation as to what they were or how they were intended to be used. At the time we talked about them a lot on the Discord instead of the wiki, and so how they should be used largely spread by word of mouth. So I thought that maybe we should talk about these and really lay the intentions and expectations for those pages out.
This isn't me so much dictating what must be done as I am explai…
Religion on the Superpower Wiki
Edit: After some discussion I think that while the overall goals of this proposal, to try and reduce flaming, were good but that the way I was going about it would ultimately be discriminatory. I no longer think that this proposal is suitable for the Superpower Wiki. Normally if I changed my mind about a proposal I would simply leave it up in case the community thought otherwise, but in this case I don't think it would be appropriate to allow a policy like this on our wiki. We will not be implementing the proposed policy, though the original text will be preserved here for posterity.
Hey, all! I'm writing this post because I have some thoughts about how we've been handling religious content on the wiki and I have a proposal for how we shoul…
Fanon on the Wiki
Hello everyone!
Today I'm announcing the result of our poll/discussion regarding the Fanon namespace. This is probably the single most popular measure taken on the wiki, and so the vote for adding the Namespace passed with a massive 91% majority.
For anyone not in the know, the wiki has some requirements for pages that are posted to the main space of the wiki. Those requirements can be found in the Requirements for Powers and their Users. However, people often want to make up their own powers that aren't represented in published fiction. Maybe the creator made the power up for their own character, or it might just be a fun idea they had. In the past they had to make those pages as Blog posts, but the problem with that is that creators can't …
Fanon Namespace
Hey everyone!
I'm here to get community input on an idea that DYBAD presented back in January - using our third namespace to create a Fanon namespace!
Namespace are a way content is organized in a wiki. For example, most powers are in the 'Main' name space, and Archetypes and Traits are also in their own custom name space to distinguish them from Power pages. This would add a third custom namespace - the last one that Fandom allows us to customize - for Fanon content. This would be a space for pages which do not meet the criteria for or are not appropriate for the main space. For example, powers that editors thought up themselves and so have no users in published fiction. There would only be a very small set of rules these powers would have …
