Demons... the very source of evil of this world. And yet... more human than many imagine. How ironic! (Gabriel Hayden/Elysium)

Demons are a race of malevolent beings of various origins, typically considered the "counter" to gods and angels alike. Even though the personality and individuality of each demon can vary, all of demon possess equal abilities.

Characteristic Traits[]

Demons in this universe are highly diverse in both appearance and abilities. While some demons can seamlessly blend in with humans, appearing almost indistinguishable from them, others present monstrous forms that evoke terror and awe. There is also a significant middle ground, where demons exhibit hybrid features—combining human-like traits with more fantastical or animalistic characteristics.

Despite these variations, all demons share an underlying supernatural essence that grants them enhanced strength, speed, and resilience. Their abilities range from elemental manipulation to shape-shifting, often reflecting their origins, purposes, or the specific realms they hail from.

Their true forms, however, are entirely twelfth-dimensional due to hells being generally a higher-dimensional place from the universe.

Powers and Abilities[]

General Demons[]

  • Demon Physiology: Demons possess a unique and diverse physiology that sets them apart from other creatures in the universe. Their bodies are often infused with otherworldly energies, making them stronger, faster, and more durable than typical beings. Their physical forms can vary, but they share the common trait of being highly adaptable to various environments, particularly those tied to darkness, decay, or the underworld. Their true forms are entirely higher-dimensional.
    • Superhuman Condition: Demons exist in a state of superhuman endurance and power. While their strength, speed, and durability vary between individuals, the average demon is significantly more formidable than the average human. Most demons possess the ability to lift tremendous weights, move at speeds far exceeding human limits, and endure damage that would kill or incapacitate normal creatures.
      • Self-Sustenance: Demons are self-sustaining beings, requiring little in the way of sustenance to survive. They do not need food or water like humans, as their bodies draw energy from the nether, dark magic, or ambient supernatural forces. Some demons can even absorb or drain energy from their surroundings or their victims, replenishing their power without the need for traditional sustenance.
      • Superhuman Senses & Extrasensory Perception: Demons possess heightened senses that go far beyond the capabilities of ordinary creatures. Many demons can see in complete darkness, detect vibrations in the air, or hear sounds at frequencies undetectable to humans. Some have an acute sense of smell, able to track prey across great distances, while others can sense magical or spiritual energies, detecting hidden forces or beings that would otherwise remain invisible.
    • Demonic Aura: The mere presence of a demon can have a profound impact on the minds of those around it. Weak-willed individuals or those with little resistance to dark energies may feel an overwhelming sense of dread or despair when near a demon, their very essence radiating a corrupting influence. This aura can cause fear, madness, or even corruption, as those exposed to it might begin to lose their sanity or fall under the demon’s control.
    • Energy Manipulation (Demonic Force and Nether): As beings born from the depths of the underworld, demons have the inherent ability to control and generate nether, an abyssal, cthonian, dark energy that is closely tied to the dark forces of the universe. Nether is a powerful substance that can be shaped and manipulated to the demon’s will, empowering their own magic. It can be used as a destructive force, capable of manifesting as shadowy tendrils, blasts of energy, or dark constructs that wreak havoc upon their enemies.
      • Demonic Magic: It stands as the sinister counterpart to divine magic, drawing its power from the inner demonic forces of its wielders. Similar to gods, demons possess innate abilities rooted in their dark essence, granting them formidable control over malevolent energies and twisted realities.
      • Magic Manipulation and Generation: Demons manipulate magic through their innate demonic essence (nether), generating demonic energy that warp reality to suit their malevolent desires. Harnessing dark energies from infernal realms, demons wield these malevolent forces to fuel their spells, enhance their physical prowess, or unleash devastating attacks. Dark energies are suffused with malevolent intent, capable of corrupting and devouring light and life wherever they touch. Demons can imbue objects with cursed properties, project blasts of unholy force, or create barriers that repel even the most powerful of magics.
        • Summoning: Through demonic magic, demons can summon creatures, spirits, or even entire legions from the depths of hellish realms. These summoned entities often embody the essence of darkness and chaos, serving their summoner's will with ruthless efficiency and malevolent intent.
        • Illusion Manipulation: Demons excel in manipulating perceptions and reality through illusions steeped in darkness and despair. They can create illusions that torment the senses, induce madness, or deceive even the most vigilant of observers. These illusions often serve to sow discord, confusion, or despair among their enemies.
        • Hell-Fire Manipulation: All demons possess the ability to control, shape, and generate hellfire, a potent and destructive force fueled by their infernal nature. Hellfire can burn with intense heat, consuming all in its path and leaving behind nothing but ash and despair. Demons can unleash hellfire in torrents, engulfing foes in searing flames that defy conventional defenses.
          • Darkness Manipulation: Demonic magic grants mastery over shadows and darkness itself. Demons can cloak themselves in darkness, traverse through shadows, or solidify darkness into tangible forms that ensnare or suffocate their enemies. This manipulation extends to creating barriers of darkness or using shadows as conduits for teleportation and surprise attacks.
    • Shapeshifting and Transformation: Demons have the ability to alter their physical forms, allowing them to assume a variety of shapes to suit their needs. This can range from subtle changes, like altering facial features or body structure, to full transformations into monstrous, terrifying entities. Some demons can even take on the appearance of humans, blending into society undetected.
    • Soul Absorption: Demons can consume the souls of mortals or other beings to enhance their power. This process not only replenishes their energy but can also grant them new abilities, knowledge, or even the essence of the absorbed soul. This dark ability allows demons to grow stronger over time, feeding off the despair, fear, or life force of others. Some demons can even store the souls they collect for later use, or manipulate them as tools or weapons.
      • Non-Physical Interaction: Demons are not limited by the constraints of the physical world. They can interact seamlessly with immaterial and ethereal aspects of existence, including spirits, energy fields, and other forms of non-corporeal matter.
    • Demonic Form: Many demons can shift into a more powerful, monstrous form, often marked by larger size, increased strength, and more menacing physical features such as horns, claws, or dark wings. In this state, their senses and abilities are heightened, making them more dangerous and resilient. This transformation can be triggered in moments of intense anger or danger, with some demons willingly tapping into this form to unleash their full potential.
    • Higher-Dimensional Existence and Acausality: Like gods, demons exist beyond the confines of time and space, residing in higher-dimensional realms where such concepts are nonexistent. As such, they are immune to abilities that manipulate time, space, or causality. Their existence is continuous and unaffected by changes in timelines or dimensional alterations, making them acausal, singular beings that does not have additional counterparts across existence.
      • Immortality: The demons' souls reside in higher planes of existence, making them impervious to death in any form—whether physical, mental, or spiritual. They cannot be killed by conventional means, and even if their physical forms are destroyed, their true essence remains untouched, allowing them to manifest again. They can only be killed de facto by demon-slaying weapons while being used by angels or gods.
        • Regenerative Healing Factor: Demons possess an extraordinary ability to regenerate, even if their souls and the very concepts that define them are erased. This high-level regenerative power allows them to reform their essence, reconstituting their physical, spiritual, and conceptual being.

Greater Demons[]

  • All Previously (to a greater extent): Greater demons possess all the capabilities of standard demons, but at a significantly enhanced level. Their physical form is often more intimidating, their shapeshifting abilities more intricate, and their connection to the nether element deeper. They can manipulate vast amounts of dark energy and are far more resilient to attacks.
  • Superior Demon: A superior demon is a being of immense strength and mastery over unique, often esoteric powers. These demons typically wield abilities that set them apart from their lesser counterparts, such as the manipulation of time, reality, or even more subtle forces like luck or fate. Their powers are often linked to ancient, forbidden knowledge or forces beyond the typical realm of demonic influence. A superior demon might also have the ability to create or control minions, raise armies, or bend others to their will more effectively. They may also be incredibly intelligent, often using their powers in clever, strategic ways that make them formidable in battle or manipulation.
  • Soul Manipulation: Superior Demons can fully control souls (other than just absorbing them), granting them control over the essence of living beings. They can bend the souls of mortals and lesser entities to their will, either enslaving them or altering their nature entirely. This ability highlights their dominance over spiritual and metaphysical realms, making them supreme rulers over the life and death of beings within their influence.

Arch-Demons[]

  • All Previously (to an even greater extent) + God-like Abilities: Archdemons embody all the abilities of lesser and greater demons, but their powers transcend mortal and even most divine understanding. Their auras are so strong that they can destroy worlds with a mere breath or cast entire realms into eternal darkness. Archdemons are entities of such magnitude that they are often considered gods or god-like beings, capable of altering the course of history with a single thought.
  • Conceptual Manipulation: Archdemons possess the power to manipulate the very concepts that define reality. This could include controlling the concepts of time, space, life, death, or even more abstract notions like love, fear, or justice. By altering or erasing these concepts, archdemons can rewrite the laws of nature, change entire worlds, or render entire planes of existence nonfunctional.
    • Sin Embodiment (Abstract Existence): Archdemons are the physical embodiments of primal sins or abstract concepts, representing an essence beyond just a force or being. They can embody traits like pride, wrath, envy, or despair, becoming living representations of those sins. This abstract existence grants them unimaginable power over those who fall victim to their specific domain, twisting the minds and souls of those who encounter them.
  • Absolute Condition: An archdemon exists in a state of absolute perfection, making them nigh invincible and immune to conventional harm. Their bodies and souls are not bound by mortal constraints; they do not age, tire, or suffer the same weaknesses as lesser beings. Any attack that would harm or weaken them is either absorbed or reflected with devastating force. They have an unparalleled resistance to magical, physical, or spiritual harm, making them essentially unkillable by normal means.
    • Ultimate Power: Archdemons wield ultimate power, the culmination of all demonic abilities. They possess a god-like strength and can summon powers that rival or surpass the might of entire pantheons. Their reality-warping abilities are so vast that they can reshape the cosmos, altering history or erasing entire timelines. Their control over dark forces allows them to create new worlds or destroy existing ones. An archdemon’s ultimate power is beyond any measure of mortal or divine strength, making them capable of unimaginable feats of destruction or creation. They exist on a level where they can rival other gods or beings of incomprehensible power, with the potential to challenge the very structure of existence itself.

Types of Demons[]

There are several different types of demonic entities. They, however, can fall under any classification above. Each of them, though, can have unique powers to them too.

Physical[]

Physical demons are beings whose appearance, physiology, and abilities are much closer to humans compared to most other demonic entities. They possess humanoid forms and are defined by a blend of demonic features and human traits. These demons are often the ones most likely to interact with mortals, blending in or influencing human society in subtle or overt ways. While not as innately monstrous as other demons, their physicality often belies incredible strength, durability, and speed. Their abilities typically focus on brute force, martial prowess, or manipulation.

Succubus/Incubus[]

Succubi and incubi are types of physical demons whose existence revolves around seduction, desire, and the manipulation of sexual energy. These demons feed on lust, drawing power from the emotions and energy released during intimacy or even mere attraction. They are often masters of charm, allure, and manipulation, capable of bending even the strongest wills. While many view them as dangerous temptresses, they are also incredibly resourceful, often using their seductive powers to achieve personal or strategic goals.

  • Dream Manipulation: Entering and controlling dreams, often for seduction or influence.
  • Lust Empowerment: Gaining strength and vitality through sexual energy.
  • Mind Control: Instilling irresistible attraction or compliance in targets.

Imps/Fiends[]

Imps and fiends are the lowest-ranking demons, often mischievous, weak, and cowardly. These small creatures act as tricksters, messengers, or servants to stronger demons. While their physical strength and durability are minimal, they make up for it with cunning, deceit, and agility. Imps often enjoy causing chaos, whether through harmless pranks or malevolent schemes, though their power rarely poses a significant threat unless in large numbers.

Infernal Beasts/Hellhounds[]

Infernal Beasts/hellhounds are feral, animalistic demons with a terrifying presence. While most are canine-like in form, variations resembling other animals (such as feline or reptilian forms) exist. These demons are savage hunters, often used as enforcers or trackers by more powerful entities. They operate almost purely on instinct and ferocity, making them unstoppable predators. Infernal Beasts are known for their incredible speed, sharp claws and fangs, and a burning aura of demonic fire.

Cambions[]

Cambions are hybrids born from the union of a human and a demon. They represent the perfect mix of demonic power and human adaptability, often making them exceptionally dangerous. Cambions can vary greatly in appearance, but they generally retain humanlike forms with subtle demonic features, such as horns, glowing eyes, or unnatural skin tones. Their abilities depend on the traits inherited from their demonic parent, though their human side often grants them higher moral reasoning and independence.

Drudes[]

Drudes are demons tied to nightmares and terror. Originating mostly from European folklore, particularly Germany, these entities are inherently evil and driven by their dark nature. Drudes prey on mortals by inducing nightmares or joining in the Wild Hunt. Their natural affinity for fear makes them relentless tormentors, and they are among the few demon types incapable of choosing good.

Familiars[]

Familiars are unique among demons in that they are often artificially created or summoned to serve a master, such as a witch or warlock. These spiritual, immaterial demons are bound by the intentions of their summoners and lack inherent morality, acting purely based on their master’s commands. While they are weaker on their own, they possess a wide range of utility and magical skills tailored to assisting or protecting their summoner.

Onis[]

Onis are types of physical demons primarily originating from Japan, either born as demons or created from corrupted humans. They are known for their immense physical power and ferocity in battle. Onis are often depicted as horned humanoids of varying human-like appearances. Unlike other demons, their power is tied to their appetite, with those consuming human flesh gaining exponentially more strength and abilities (as such, they don't have the more "abstract" abilities). While some Onis can maintain a semblance of humanity, fully embracing their demonic nature makes them incredibly dangerous.

Weaknesses[]

  • Demons are often weakened or repelled by light-based or holy energies, as these forces directly counteract their dark nature. Prolonged exposure to such energies can cause significant pain and even render them powerless temporarily.
  • Some demons can be banished or weakened by rituals that purify or exorcise their souls, especially when the demon's connection to the mortal realm is severed or their essence is cleansed by divine or celestial forces.
  • Certain objects imbued with ancient curses can negate a demon's powers or even force them back into their original form, as they can manipulate the demon's essence and bind them to a particular space or time.

Technology[]

Despite their supernatural nature, demons have access to advanced and often esoteric forms of technology that seem to bridge the gap between magic and science. Their technology is not based on the traditional understanding of engineering but instead derives from their deep knowledge of the arcane and the manipulation of otherworldly energies. Demonic technology often takes the form of artifacts or devices powered by nether, dark matter, or the souls of mortals. These creations are often complex and inexplicable to human minds, as they are designed using principles beyond mortal comprehension.

For instance, demonic weaponry might include cursed blades or guns that channel the power of despair or fear, drawing from the emotions of those they strike. Their vehicles, when they choose to use them, can phase through dimensions, travel through the abyss, or manifest from the void itself, often shifting in appearance to reflect the nature of the demon controlling it.

Demons are also known to create gates, portals, and other devices that allow them to traverse different planes of existence or invade mortal realms, manipulating space-time in ways that defy conventional laws. These technological feats are often powered by dark forces, creating devices that cannot be replicated by human science, and are often designed for domination, manipulation, or destruction.

Trivia[]

  • Demons love to strike deals with mortals, often offering power in exchange for souls or servitude. However, these contracts are always trickster-like in nature, and breaking them often leads to horrifying consequences.
  • Different cultures view demons in a variety of ways, with some treating them as gods, others as punishers, and others still as feared entities that must be kept at bay. Some demons even take on human forms to blend in or influence society from the shadows.
  • Demons are often organized into a strict hierarchy, where the most powerful beings reign at the top, and the weakest serve in the lower ranks.
    • Archdemons and Greater Demons are often seen as lords or kings of the underworld, while lesser demons serve as soldiers or spies.
  • While demons can travel between worlds and realms, many are bound to the Abyss or underworld by ancient pacts or laws. This imprisonment can be broken in rare circumstances, leading to great upheaval.
  • Whenever a demon attempts to or directly goes against their nature (in other words, aren't evil individuals), they are severely punished "by the abyss" and have their powers greatly diminished to the point they are as powerful as any average superpowered human.
    • However, under certain circumstances (or simply if their origins are beneficial to do so), those good demons can still revert back to their true power and possess great abilities.
    • Some examples of good demons are Nam-Hur and Alithia.
  • Demons often give themselves names that reflect their essence or abilities, and the act of speaking or knowing a demon’s true name can give others power over them. However, demons also hide their true names to prevent mortals from having leverage.
  • Despite their heavy similarities, many Fallen Angels aren't demons.
    • While some were indeed fully converted into demons, the vast majority still has connection to the divine and thus can't be considered "true demons".
    • An example of non-demonic fallen angel is Samael.
