Jacques Souris, also known as the Mousketeer, is a mouse beastkin who is known for being a disillusioned little swordsman.

Appearance[]

Jacques is a small and sprightly young boy, made even shorter by his mouse beastkin heritage. He has wavy strawberry-blonde hair that curls naturally and bright blue eyes. His skin is fair, giving him a slightly fragile appearance, and he sports prominent mouse-like features: round ears that twitch with every new sound and a thin, expressive tail He is unmistakably a child, with soft, rounded cheeks and an infectious grin.

His attire reflects his dream of knighthood and valor, yet it’s practical and endearing in its simplicity. He wears a white short bliaut secured by brown belts, accentuated by a large black cape that flows behind him. His boots are sturdy and brown, showing signs of wear from frequent “adventures”. Completing his ensemble is a black broad-brimmed hat that he wears with undeniable pride; it’s slightly oversized.

Personality[]

Jacques is a disillusioned little boy who believes he’s the reincarnation of a legendary warrior from mouse folklore. This conviction fuels his brave and adventurous spirit, causing him to approach life with a confidence that often surprises those who meet him. In his mind, he is a seasoned knight, not a child, and he hates being underestimated due to his small stature or young age. He dreams of protecting the weak and facing down dangers, and his bravery often exceeds his actual experience and abilities. Despite his naivety, he faces challenges with a boldness that endears him to those around him, particularly the servants and guards of Lumine Castle.

Though Jacques is confident and proud, his passionate nature is rooted in a deep desire to make his adoptive mother, Geneviève, proud. He was found on the doorstep of a noble house as a baby, and since then, she has raised him with love and care, becoming his anchor and his source of comfort. Jacques adores her and constantly dreams of proving his worth to her, hoping to bring honor to their humble background. His dedication to her is apparent in everything he does, as he frequently seeks her approval and boasts of his small victories to her. Geneviève's unwavering support has instilled in him a strong sense of loyalty and compassion, which he extends to his friends and allies.

Underneath his bold exterior, Jacques is still a young boy, vulnerable and sensitive. He’s prone to tears over trivial things, often needing the comfort of his mother’s embrace after a tough day or a failed adventure. While he fiercely maintains the facade of a gallant warrior, he secretly craves the warmth and security Geneviève provides.

His Rainbow Magic reaches new heights, allowing him to unleash bursts of multicolored energy that explode in waves, causing both damage and confusion. Each beam carries a different elemental effect, overwhelming foes with combined forces.
    • Enhanced Light Manipulation: One of his most powerful techniques in this state is Blinding Tempest, a storm of light that forms a cyclone around him, scattering beams of intensified energy in all directions.   • He is slight based on Puss in Boots (DreamWorks).
  • Jacques loves cheese croissants, which he calls his “power-up snack” before any big adventure.
  • He detests being called “cute” or “adorable”, especially by people who don’t take him seriously because of his small size.
    • However, unlike Claire (a teammate), he makes an exception when it comes to his mother or people his likes, and loves being praised by them. By the way, he has empathy towards Claire due to their similar circumstances, but doesn't understand why she negates so much the fact that she is young like him.
  • While he’ll never admit it, Jacques is a bit scared of the dark, often clutching his hat tightly when venturing into dark areas. So, he decided to have an affinity towards light magic because it would help him with his fear.
  • He enjoys reading stories of brave knights and heroes, sometimes reenacting scenes with his wooden rapier.
  • Jacques firmly believes that “every battle is winnable,” a saying he picked up from the older knights at the castle.
  • Despite his young age, he’s actually quite good at sewing, a skill taught by his mother Geneviève.
    • So yes, his bliaut and cape was made by himself.
  • Jacques looks up to tales of the legendary Mouse Knight, who he believes to be his former self.
  • He’s fashioned a small “shield” out of an old metal pan, claiming it can block even the fiercest of monsters.
  • Jacques dreams of one day earning a place in the castle guard, where he believes he’ll finally be able to protect everyone he loves.
  • Among the New Guild (Mia's party), he has a rivalry with Naoko Ferus, a cat beastkin. The reason is very obvious.
    • Also, he is the only member of the New Guild that doesn't live in the same house as the others. The reason is that he prefers to be near his "mommy" and doesn't like staying with people he doesn't like.
    • So, he only meets them when there's a quest/adventure in the Adventurer's Guild headquarters.
