The power to survive in the vacuum of space unaided. Not to be confused with Atmospheric Adaptation.

Also Called

  • Space Adaptation
  • Vacuum Support
  • Space Survivability

Capability

Vacuum Adaptation allows the user to survive an a space environment unaided. They are able to withstand atmospheres (heat intensity and any poisonous chemical elements), cosmic media (radiation) and strange gravity (even sometimes that of a black hole), and to perhaps propel oneself into space. The user of these adaptations would still preserve their humanoid body image with perhaps a few superhuman anatomical features. Advanced users can undergo the procedure for the extent the ability allows without oxygen (e.g. 24 hours plus).

Associations

  • Usually accompanies Anaerobic Respiration (breathing without oxygen or air). The user’s lungs evolve rapidly to adjust to the lack of inhaled oxygen so the user can hold their breath for a long time. The body will make its own oxygen as long as it permits.
  • Seldom are bestowed varieties of Adaptation, but if so, the adaptation(s) would be compatible or similar in nature.

Limits

  • With less practice over the ability, the user may only withstand oxygen for up to 2.5 hours.
  • Can cause seizures after extended use.
  • May be unable to communicate vocally.
  • May shut down if the user cannot retrieve oxygen from nearby source or supply.
  • May find it hard to adapt back to oxygen after the source is found
