- "The Weendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tautly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Weendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody [....] Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Weendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption."
- ― Basil Johnston, an Ojibwe teacher and scholar

Notes[]
- Wendigo is often seen as a warning against cannibalism but in truth it was a far greater entity that embodied human greed in all its form, especially when said greed grew out of control, the very name is considered bad luck by many tribes and thus combined with mass-media misrepresentation has attributed to a taboo around the creature that persists to this day (similar to the skinwalker, who also shares a social taboo among its native population).
- The Wendigo was once attempted to be tackled scientifically via the now discredited "Wendigo Psychosis" theory.
- In traditional lore they are often human-like in appearance (akin to a yeti or sasquatch) while modern takes have tended towards giving the Wendigo more noticeable animal traits such as antlers and hooves (presumably that of a deer).
Limitations[]
- May have cannibalistic urges, especially if they gained this power by traditional means, ie. ritualistic cannibalism.
